Hi Starky

welcome back to the TC Forums.

I have read your log. I didn't find anything real bad so lets do some steps,
to see if there is anything hidden in your log.

Let me suggest you copy and paste these instructions into word pad, and print it out so you can follow the steps in order.

FIRST:

You need to set WinXP to show all hidden and system
files.
Here is how:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Follow these steps in order:
=======================================================
NEXT:

Important

Defender
We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Windows Defender.
QUOTE
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
====================================

STEP 1.
======

Let’s check for Malware/Spyware on your computer which is best dealt with by spyware-removal programs used one after the other.

Run your Spybot Search and Destroy
Make sure your version is the latest ver: 1.4
if not get the latest here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

STEP 2.
======
Ad-Aware SE by Lavasoft:

1. Download 'Ad-Aware SE'. Get it here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910…&tag=button
2. Install according to the instructions in "How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware SE" Get it here:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
3. Next, 'Check for Updates' by clicking on the 'world globe' second from the right at the top of your Ad-Aware SE window.
4. Install the updates.
5. Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE
6. Click on 'Start' and choose 'full scan' for a full scan.
7. Quarantine anything that it finds and SAVE the log file.
8.REBOOT to finish removing what Ad-Aware SE found and clear memory.

Please let me know if anything can not be cleaned by these utilities.

STEP 3.
======
Run a Panda online ActiveScan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

On the top right go to: Free Use ActiveScan
Follow the prompts, provide the required info, select: Scan Now!
Allow the ActiveX download.

Select a device to scan: Local Disks

Next, select: See Report
Then select, Save Report and save to a location where you can find the report

Allow them to remove anything they find.
If anything should be found that it couldn’t clean, please WRITE DOWN the FULL PATHS AND FILENAMES. and include on next post with new log.
==========================================
NEXT:

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

logon to your user account.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click Fix checked
================================================

Please run the HijackThis program and post a new log here, as well as the results from the Panda ActiveScan.
Also tell me how your PC is doing at this time.

When I see the new log there will be some more to do.
Thanks and good luck
mschroe919
The main reason behind posting this was the my way search assistant thing in my add/remove programs list. It had no remove button. Also, if there are any other problems you can see with whatever this logfile shows you that are interfering with the speed of my computer, then any help would be greatly appreciated. The panda scan did not fix/disinfect anything, nor did it give me an option/prompt to do so. Thank you for all your help!

Hi Starky

welcome back to the TC Forums.

First off

The main reason behind posting this was the my way search assistant thing in my add/remove programs list. It had no remove button

Not to worry it desn't seem to be on the PC.

Important
If you disabled it please leave it disabled, till we get done then we will enable it again.

Defender
We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Windows Defender.

Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

I ran those programs you asked me to. A different program i use that seems to do that same thing is cleanup. i usually run that about once a week. My computer seems to run really great. I dont notice any hangs in the system when doing anything. I am a little concerned about the spyware that was detected by the panda scan. You didnt adress those issues when you replied to the post.

I have the realtime protection disabled on my windows defender., and here is my logfile.

Hi Starky

welcome back to the TC Forums.

I am a little concerned about the spyware that was detected by the panda scan. You didnt adress those issues when you replied to the post.

Sorry about that it was an over sight on my part.
That only shows Java cache and cookies. ATF cleaner will kill those.
If you ran the ATF on the last try, need not to worry, they are gone.
The only one shown, That would be a concern but I don't see running, but you can delete it.
Potentially unwanted tool:Application/FunWeb Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf
Go to below and delete the file in Red
Not to worry if not there.
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf
If you didn't run the ATF here it is again:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

There will be a little more to do once I see the new log.

Good luck mschroe919
