Ewido took care of Hotbar, running the tool was just a doublecheck.

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <– this program is not malware itself but installs wihtout your knowledge or consent and is not needed. You can uninstall it via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

These two files are added by the Spyware.Systemsurv surveillance software. Spyware.Systemsurv is a program which monitors keystrokes, Web sites visited and IM conversations. Screenshots can also be captured, which can be triggered on specific keywords. Do you know about this program, have you installed it??
C:\WINDOWS\svcwinra.exe
C:\WINDOWS\resfilter32.exe

The rest we have to do manually

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked

Boot into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard

Look for and delete the following files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\eukhqzh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msconfig.dll <– Not msconfig.exe this is legit

Reboot normally and run this system cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

i did instally the surveillance program so i don't want to mess with that …

i did the fix on the hj scan but got an error - it said - unexpected error@producure modbackup-makeBackup (sitem=020-applnit-dlls:msconfig.dll error#5

i re-ran the scan and didn't see that one this time out - at the moment the computer seems to be running smoothly - no popups but my real problem is the fact that something happened at some point and i no longer can look at sites that require flash - this is especially important to my 5 year old… when we go to one of his "site" (like nickjr.com) it says we need flash so i click and download - the adobe site says it's installed but when i go back to nickjr.com - it still says there is no flash loaded…i've gone back again and again and re-tried downloading and am at a loss as to what the problem is … can you help me with this?
rachelfran,

That happened to me about a year ago, I went through all the programs I had installed on my system and uninstalled about 10 of them that I never used and I was then able to install Adobe Flash, something on your system is preventingi it from working.

You can try uninstalling it here, make sure you have no other programs open, you may want to download the uninstaller and then do it in Safemode.

Reboot your system.

Then download and install the new version here
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

If this fails, you can post in this forum for Adobe Flashplayer.

thanks for your help i sincerely appreciate it but when i go to the flash forums i see lots of posts with people who are having problems w/flash - and no replies are there boards like this where someone might actually help me? i did post to the windows tech board on this site — could they help me? rachel
hey there mr. rockstar… i've got a huge - and i mean huge problem on my computer i was out all day today and came home to find some serious bug on my system - i'm writing on firefox write now because on IE - i can't even get to this page… it tells me that there is some error preventing me and i need to download some spyware software to get rid of it… i also have a question mark blinking in my bottom right of the screen and if i click it - it takes me to any number of sites to download additional spyware preventatives…. this is the worst kind of virus i've ever had since it's actually blocking me from getting to sites i need - i couldn't get onto yahoo groups either … i also have a yellow triangle w/an exclamation point that says critical error in it - i can't tell if anything is real or if it's fake stuff trying to get me to download more carp** i did find some strange downloads that i've deleted – i'm running a quick ewido which is currently still running and only picking up some tracing cookies and two adware - i will delete them all but it doesn't appear to be anything serious – not like this blinking thing - i'm also running AVG - but it takes forever. please help me again oh mighty master - this is freaking me out. rachel
anticipating the need for a new hjt log - it's below… i've run several spybots & adaware….
but i still have the blinking questionmark in a blue circle alternating w/a red circle w/a line through it and those pesky yellow notices of critical errors

you changed your reply - right?
i thought i was losing my mind!

I did change it, my original was quite long, lets do this..

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
