Hello jamjay,

We need to determine whether your system is infected or not.

Please do the following:

Go to Start >Run and type "Notepad" without the quotes
Copy the contents of this next code box to Notepad.
Go to the menu at the top of the Notepad file and Save as:

Name the file inspect.bat
Save as Type: All files
Select the desktop icon on the left to save it on the desktop.

Double click on inspect.bat and let it run.
When finished it will open a file in Notepad.
That file will be named startup.txt
Please post the contents of startup.txt into your next reply here.

Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Standard
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:
Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.

Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post.

STEP 1.

Hijackthis Start-up List

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section.
click on Open Uninstall Manager.
Click on Save List and save uninstall_list.txt to your Desktop.
Open this file in Notepad and copy/past the content in your reply.
Click back (the one located at the right side of the save list button)
Put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections.
Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes

Copy/paste the content in your reply.

Please reply with the startup.txt, the Kapersky results, the hijackthis startup. Also it looks like you are running two antivirus applications Avast and AVG. Two antivirus applications running can cause problems so you should uninstall one. How long have you been using the Zone Alarm firewall?

Hi Susan, Tried the first step, when I double click on the new inspect.bat file I've created on the desktop I get the following windows message….. inspect.bat is not a valid Win32 application

Hello jimhay,

You have two anti-virus applications because two or more can interfere with each other. Please uninstall one.
avast! Antivirus
AVG Free Edition

Please use Windows Explorer and navigate to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jamie\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\files<==delete all files within the cache folder

WARNING! Please be careful when deleting files. Make sure that you are deleting files only inside the Java cache folder, otherwise you may damage your system!

Have you always used zone alarm for your firewall?

Please post another hijackthis. Let me know if you notice any improvements.

Hi Susan, thannx for the quick reply

The blue screens were appearing before I installed 2 anti viruses & zone alarm.

But I've uninstall AVG (the latest one) anyway.

Also I dont have the following folder under Java…

C:\Documents and Settings\Jamie\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\files

Only

Hi jamhay,

Please do the following:

STEP 1.
======
WinPFind
Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection! Download WinPFind from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select Extract All
Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Don’t do anything with it yet!

Reboot.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
Click on Configure Scan Options.
Remove all the checkmarks under Folder Options on the left side by clicking the button Remove All, uncheck Run Addon's and click Apply.
Click Start Scan
It will scan the entire System, so please be patient! This scan may take awhile

Once the Scan is Complete

Reboot your computer into normal mode.
Go to the WinPFind folder
Locate WinPFind.txt
Copy the results from the WinPFind.txt file and post the results in your next reply.
