HI….

I don't know what's going on with my chatroom capabilities. It started with not being able to copy text, and not being able to click on links, although I WAS previously able to do this.
Now, after a few attempted, tragic, fixes by me, going to a chatroom shuts down my IE.
I have Sun Java Console in my Tools, and clicking on that causes IE to shut down.
I can go to Java.com, but clicking on download also just shuts down IE.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and that led to a multitude of problems….

I so hope someone here can help me

Here is my Hijackthis log…

bump…. I really need to try and fix this….I have to have chat for my business :( I read thru a search that ieplore might be a possible virus? I have other things that need fixing too, but thought I would deal with just this one issue at this time. I really hope somene can help, or at least point me in the right direction. TIA, Lynne
Hello Lynne :D Welcome to the forum, sorry for the delay. Your HJT log is very outdated and not showing the whole picture, go to where you have HJT and delete the entire folder. Then use the link in my signature to download and install version 1.99.1 and post a new log. Do you have your windows CD by chance? Ken :D
Hi…..
THANKS for your attempt at helping me :)
No, I don't have a copy of my windows CD…dunno why not tho….I have 2 Dell's, and a CD didn't come with either one….

OK….all done…
I checked, and chat is still shutting down my ie. I also went to a plain ol' website last nite, 3Scrapateers.com
and it shut down my ie also….Hmmmmmmmmmmmm….
Also, wierd, but put down my laptop, and all of a sudden a blue screen came up with a bunch of white text….I didn't get all the message, but something saying one of my internal componets is damaged. It happended twice. Am I about to lose my hard drive, ya think? :o

I can call Dell to get a copy of my Windows….do u think it would help to uninstall Windows and re-install?

Ken…THANKS for your help, and your group…it's awesome that you guys do this!

If your hard drive is going , you will know it, you will start to get some funny sounds. Is your laptop running real hot? If so, I would call Dell.

You can also call Dell and order the Windows CD for your system.

I dont know if you have XP Home or Professional, but if you could borrow a disk, you may be able to do a repair.

1.
You dont need the disk for this one.
Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files > and offline content as well
  • Then go to the Programs Tab and Reset Web Settings

2.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

3.
You boot from the windows CD and it will take you to the recovery console and you can run the repair feature.

4.
For this windows repair install feature, You have to have the windows disk for the computer your working on, it cant be for another computer or borrowed, then you also boot to this disk and do a windows repair install, different than #3.
