Hello Everyone:
This is the first time I've used this forum so please bear with me and my description of my PC troubles. The biggest and most noticable thing I'm seeing is a change in my desktop. Instead of my normal background I see a solid blue screen with the following info: "Your PC is infected! System error #1752. Your system has several fatal errors due to spyware activity. It then goes on to mention spefics about myPC (ie address, processor, etc). I also keep getting random pop-ups, and have seen and red-circle icon in my task bar with what appears to be an exclaimation point in it.

My PC is slow and lumbering these days and its fairly new so that should not be the issue. Here is a copy of my log file. please let me know if anyone can help fix these issues. Thanks.

Hi and welcome! [external image: Posted Image]

I'm Jet Ian [image unavailable: Posted Image], and I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. Please give me some time to look it over and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks for waiting! :)

You may want to print out these instructions or save it as a text document, and use them as a reference. If you have any questions regarding the fix, please ask us before proceeding. It is also important for you to don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order.

=====================================

Your HijackThis is still in a .zip file. Having HJT zipped, it can't create backups, so we must delete this .zip file and re-install HJT again. To do that, please follow the instructions below:
  • Please delete your old copy of HijackThis.
  • Download HijackThis (self-extracting) to your Desktop.
  • Double-click the file, then click the Unzip button.
  • Close the window afterwards.
Your HijackThis is now in a permanent folder, and can save backups safely. Please remember that it is now saved in C:\Program Files\HijackThis\

=====================================

Download Qoofix by RubbeR DuckY
  • Unzip all files to C:\Qoofix.
  • Close all windows and programs, including internet windows.
  • Go to the C:\Qoofix and open it, then double-click on Qoofix.exe.
  • Click Begin Removal and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If QooFix finds an infection, select yes to restart your computer.
  • You will now find a log from this tool, located at C:\Qoofix\Qoofix Logfile.txt. I need you to post that later.
=====================================

Download CWShredder
  • Save it to its own folder.
  • Open CWShredder.
  • Click I Agree.
  • Click Check For Update.
    Then:
  • Click I Agree.
  • Click Fix.
  • Click Next (let it fix everything it asks about).
  • Reboot afterwards.
===

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
  • Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
  • Do not do anything with it yet.
=====================================

I see Viewpoint installed..

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article.

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
=====================================

I notice that you have Weatherbug installed on your computer – This is very much an ad-enabled application which in addition to providing current outdoor temperature information in the System Tray together with real-time weather alerts can also draw unwanted ads and popups to your computer.

Our recommendation would be to uninstall it using the Add or Remove Programs feature in Control Panel.

If you want a program which provides weather information there is an ad-free alternative to Weatherbug called WeatherWatcher which is available free from http://www.snapfiles.com/get/weatherwatcher.html.

Of course this remains entirely your choice, but please be aware that if you decide to continue using Weatherbug, your computer will be at an increased risk of infection from malware.

=====================================

Uninstall Programs
  • Click Start » Run » type: appwiz.cpl » OK
  • Find and remove the following program(s) (if present):

    MyWebSearch

  • Close Add/Remove Programs window after uninstalling.
=====================================
  • Open HiJackThis.
  • Click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Click "Delete a file on reboot…"
  • In the "Enter file to delete on reboot…" window, navigate to:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\

  • And select the file :

    systq.dll

  • Then click "Open". After you click Open, HiJackThis will ask you if you want to restart your computer now. You do, so click "Yes".
=====================================

Please open HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

STupid Question I'm sure but I can't seem to locate where the zipped version of highjack is located on my PC to delete. Any suggestions?
Hello chris, Don't delete the old copy of Hijackthis anymore, just download the newer version and then install it. Be sure that's the one you use.. Then continue with the rest of the instructions. :)
I'm to the point of opening HijackThis. I clicked "open the Misc Tools section", and then clicked "Delete a file on reboot" however I am not able to complete the next section "enter file to delete on reboot…window, navigate to:". When I click "delete a file on reboot…", the entire program (HighjackThis) closes. Any suggestions?
When you click Delete a file on reboot in Hijackthis, you should get this window:

[external image: Posted Image]

Browse for the file we want to delete:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\systq.dll

Then click Open.

After you click Open, this window should appear:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click Yes and your computer should restart.

Then continue with the rest of my instructions.
Ian: That's the exact issue, a new window does NOT open for me when I click "Delete a file on reboot". As a matter of fact, HijackThis closes 100%. Should I reinstall Highjackthis? Is the spyware preventing this from happening?
Ok, I think we need to use another option.

Replace those instructions with these, and then continue with the rest:

Download Killbox

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select Delete on Reboot.
  • Click on the All Files button.
  • Copy the words below (inside the box) by left clicking and covering all the text then right click inside the highlighted area and choose Copy:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\systq.dll

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the Unregister .dll Before Deleting button.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes when prompted to restart your computer.
NOTES :
  • If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
  • If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Jet: I thin kwe are getting closer but I've encountered yet another hiccup. I am at the point of rebooting the PC in safe mode and everything goes well until I get to the point of entering my user name and password. These are not hard things to remember and i KNOW they are correct yet it tells me to check the domain, password etc to be sure they are correct. The case is also corrected entered. One thing I do notice different is when I boot up regularly, I see a line for username, password and its domain (or whatever it says…cant remember) In safe mode I only see two lines and cant get the third line to appear…..even when i click options. Doing that literally changes nothing on the screen. Suggestions? Getting closer but we are still not there yet. Thanks for all this. I do appreciate it.
Hello chris. :)

A few questions..

1. Is this a networked PC?

2. Is this the Network Domain or ISP?
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = us.lindt.net

Also, can you post a new Hijackthis log please? Thanks. :)
Jet:
This is not a network PC but it is a work PC. I'm not 100% if that network domain is correct (just because I'm not well school in PC's) but that looks/ seems right. Is that an issue?
Here is my latest HJT log too.
