Hello Soultemptress

You Have A Variant of the CoolWebSearch Trojan.

Please Download CWShredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip and run the Program twice. Press the "Fix Button" Let it fix all variants.

Please look over the Following Entries I have listed, run Hijack This again and check them and then, making sure you have No Internet Explorer Windows open, including this one, Press the "Fix Checked" Button with HijackThis.

Reboot If I have specified below, and Post a Fresh HijackThis log.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

After this, Reboot and Delete the following files:

hi Soultemptress

Your log is clean. install both of the Internet Explorer updates. as for all of the windows updates just make sure you get all of the critical ones. You mentioned a problem with the SP1 update, if it didn't take it properly it will suggest that you reinstall it when you go to the windows update page.

For further Protection download and install:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Both are very small free programs that you run once, and then just occasionally to check for updates.

And also see
So how did I get infected in the first place?
Glad we could help. :)
