I also would like you to run the free online virus scanner from Panda, it won't clean anything but will give us a report, if there is something bad on your log that is hidding, it will show up in both Blacklight or Panda.
I know running these scans are time consuming but we are trying to determine if there is a bad program hidding that is causing you your problems or if its just a windows problem.
Ken,
Hoster works fine but I can't get to Panda Active Scan, neither from your posting link nor from Google (for that matter can't get Google either!).
Just about to go get a brick but thought I'd check in with you first
Thanks,
Geoff
Geoff,
Are you saying that whatever url you type in that its taking you to a different site? What site is it taking you to. I can't see anything wrong although there has to be.
Just type some sites in randomly like www.ebay.com , do about 5 of them, copy and paste where its taking you to to Notepad, when you get all 5, paste the URLs into this thread.
Ken
Lets also try a different browser and see if you still have the same problem. Yoi don't have to uninstall IE, you can use them both. I use Firefox almost 98% of the time.
Ken,
Downloaded and installed Firefox. Seems to work but no chance to test fully just yet.
Interestingly, using the Mozilla link in your post wouldn't start the Mozilla download but, when I started from the Mozilla Home Page, I could click on the Firefox download link and it worked fine. Your link gave me the same message I get when I try to open Google, etc: "Cannot find Server" on the Browser Title bar and "The Page could not be displayed" in the body of the page. I have tried allowing the site addresses in ZoneAlarm but this doesn't seem to change anything either.
I've also loaded a new Hosts file from MVP and that doesn't help either.
Really odd.
Thanks for your persistence,
Geoff
My link just takes you to the Firefox website, not to start the download.
Interestingly, using the Mozilla link in your post wouldn't start the Mozilla download
* Whether you use Firefox or IE, completely shut down Zone Alarm and see if your problem goes away.
* Open up IE and go to Tools> Internet Options> Security > Restricted Sites> Sites and see if any of the websites you are trying to get into are listed in there, if so remove them.
Let Firefox run for a few days and post back and let me know how your doing.
Sorry, I wasn't completely clear in my explanation about your Firefox link. Your link does take me to the Mozilla site and doesn't start the download - I have to start that but, when I click the download button on the page from your link it goes to the "Page could not be displayed" message. If I change the URL to just www.mozilla.com, I get to the Mozilla Home Page and clicking the download link there worked OK.
Will try the shutdown ZoneAlarm thing and give Firefox a thorough check out. Will get back to you by Friday or Saturday your time as I'll be out of state all next week. Hope this will be OK for you and thanks again.
