Hello SMoRZ3, Welcome to the TomCoyote Forums My name is mschroe919 and I am going to read your log. I would like to help you So if you would….Please read first: You have been infected by Trojan.Abwiz.F, a Trojan horse with rootkit abilities that downloads and executes remote files and sends confidential computer information to a remote attacker. The Trojan also allows a remote attacker to perform various unauthorized actions on the compromised computer. Its very possible that anything could have been installed on your computer by the remote attacker, including opening other backdoors and installing other rootkits. While we can attempt to clean what we see in your logs, we can't guarantee that your computer will be completely in the clear since we have no way of knowing that has been done to the computer. Your computer could be completely compromised at this moment. It may be prudent to backup your information, reformat, and reinstall. I also recommend that you disconnect this machine from the internet NOW! 1. Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned. 2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers. 3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords – for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to. Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information. If you do wish to try to clean your computer, please follow some instructions: Please let me know what you wish to do. Good luck mschroe919
Unfortunatly I no longer have the infected computer. I am a computer tech at a mom and pop computer repair store. I dont have much experience with hijackthis and came to the forums for advice. Its my day off so im assuming who ever took over the computer probable just reformatted the computer because it was in very bad shape….but out of curiosity and interest i was wondering if you could point out what gave away the virus in the log??? and a slimed down version of how to fix it (unless you want to spend the time going over the exact process….or you have it save somewhere…)… also while i got your attention ;) i was wondering if you could just give a quick list of programs cominly used for this kind of clean up and its purpose….(i already know about spybot, adaware, and hijackthis)… thanks for any advice, help, wisdom, prayers….;) SMoRZ3 :)
Hi SMoRZ3
Welcome back to the forum.

but out of curiosity and interest i was wondering if you could point out what gave away the virus in the log???

These are two there is more:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe"

Also :
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [taskdir] C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskdir.exe
This is an undesirable program.

This file has been identified as a program that is undesirable to have running on your computer. This consists of programs that are misleading, harmful, or undesirable.

If the description states that it is a piece of malware, you should immediately run an antivirus and antispyware program. If that does not help, feel free to ask us for assistance in the forums.
There is a lot of things and programs, we do to clean out infected PC's.
too many to go into detail about, but the best place to learn is visit the forums and watch the repairs as they are being done.
Also see Self Help at:

========================================
Also:
As a computer tech at a mom and pop computer repair store, or anywhere the one place we visit ig Google. When in doubt Google it.
For instance, try and google this…. ibm00001.exe from the F2 line
and the taskdir.exe from the 04 line..
This will tell you of some of the bad stuff on the PC.

also while i got your attention ;) i was wondering if you could just give a quick list of programs cominly used for this kind of clean up and its purpose….(i already know about spybot, adaware, and hijackthis)…

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky.com/buyonline.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata….jsp?lid=nav_za

Sunbelt Kerio:

================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install Ad-Aware
Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. The download and tutorial on installing & using Ad-aware can be found here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial48.html

====================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Good luck and happy surfing and let me know what you think here.
