Win32/Boxed virus

Hello, this is my first time posting. I have a couple trojans I am unable to get rid of. It is Win32/Boxed.CT an Win32/Boxed.CS - There is no info on it when I run a google search on it, and I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I have run SB S&D, and run my eTrusu EZ antivirus. My AV found 140 instances of it and cleaned it, but it still kept popping up continuously. I then ran it in safe mode, but it's still there. Anyone heard of this one? Here is my Hijackthis log - I'm sure I have other problems also, that is the problem with 5 kids on my computer, they're always opening or running something new, and I'm always cleaning out my computer.

Sorry to have to reply to my own post here, but the problem was fixed. I had just thought I had turned off my System Restore before running my antivirus, and I had not. The Virus is removed though, so you may close my thread.

Check your log.

If this is still there:

You still have an infection present.

Thanks for the post, I figured out it was still infected 2 hours after I restarted. Do you have any idea how to rid myself of this virus? Thanks for the help. Are there any other problems I should know about here other than this win32/boxed?

If you want me to help, please make a new HijackThis! log, and post it into this thread.

If you know the "full path names" (i.e. "C:\Windows\Virus.exe") of the "win32/boxed" virus files, that would be helpful as well.

Don't run it yet.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Close the program.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\system\smss.exe <— file
(WARNING!!! DELETE THIS SMSS.EXE IN THIS FOLDER ONLY!!!)

The "legitimate" one is in the System32 folder. LEAVE IT ALONE.

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)

Not at the moment no, but last time I thought I was clean, it took about an hour or two for them to pop back up again. But at least you knew what to look for, I did a google search for those instances of the virus and came up with nothing.

I am running through a router, and it is firewalled, does that count? And only this computer got infected, not my other one.
