Update Java:
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
• Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment….)
It should have next icon next to it: [external image: Posted Image]
Select it and click Remove.
• The current version can be downloaded from Sun here: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
• Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8' and press the 'Download' button. On the new web page, click the 'Accept License Agreement' button. Then select 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' in the Windows Platform area just below the Accept button.

Please go to > start > run and type:
notepad.exe

In notepad click format and make sure word wrap is unchecked.
Now make a new HijackThislog and there will no longer be that unnecessary empty “white” lines.
I was surprised to see so many javas in the program list. I removed them and installed the new one. Here is my latest hijack log.

Thank You for helping me.

Well, it looks fine now :)

You are currently running Hijackthis from your desktop.
Since Hijackthis makes a backups-folder of any entries you fix, you should create a folder just to hold the HijackThis program and its backups.
Go to "My Computer", click on C:\ and then go to the "File" menu, choose New -> Folder. Name the folder "HJT" or something like that and then please move the Hijackthis.exe program there.

We need to disable SpywareGuard as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.

You are unable to change your internet explorer settings, and did not gave Spybot or any other program permission for immunise? Fix this entry with HijackThis:

There is a restriction in Internet Explorer and you can not change the settings. If you did not give any antispywareprogram permission fix below entry.

Click on 'Fix checked' and close the program.

Download, install, and update Ewido anti-spyware (This is a 30 days trial)

  • Start the program but don't scan for virus at this moment.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Close Ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan at this moment.

Reboot your pc into safe mode

Safe mode for Windows XP
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded and before Windows is loaded, begin tapping the F8 (or F5) key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
  • Press Enter.
Once in safe mode, start Ewido anti-spyware.
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan your pc, be patient this may take a little time.
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the button "Save Report".
  • Click the "Save report as" button and save the report to your desktop.
  • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.
Post the results of the Ewido report scan along with a new HijackThis log. :)

After the fix is complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
I followed the instructions but while scanning with Ewido in safe mode it crashed several times. I reinstalled Ewido and it still crashed at about 160,000 objects scanned. Ewido had found one malware before the crashes and it was "Adware.Generic".

I ran HijackThis after booting back into normal mode. Here is the log.

Thank You :)

I am happy you are helping me. :)

I reinstalled Ewido and it still crashed at about 160,000 objects scanned.

Ewido does that sometimes when there are to many temp. files etc.; so you can first do this:

To clean temporary files:
Go > start > run and type cleanmgr and click OK
Scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Click OK to remove those files.
Click Yes to confirm deletion.

Then reboot in safe mode and then run Ewido again.
I tried the deletion of temp files ect , but ewido still crashed. I am now deleting other various files off the c drive and I will try again. There is alot of old downloads that I am removing , and will try ewido again. I will post the results soon , Thank You :)
After removing some old download files I was able to get ewido to run. Here are the results. :)

Looks fine

Reference to slow boot times. Too many programs loading at startup will slow boot time.
Nortons/Symantec are known resources hogs, so will tend to slow bootup. That's just something we have to put up with, when using those programs. Those other individuals may not be using Nortons/Symantec, so they would probably boot faster. Also, they may not have as many programs starting at boot up and are loading them manually, when necessary. So, they save time at bootup, but then have to load them every time they are needed. It remains your own choice.

For a quicker launch at startup there are optionals to fix:

Open msconfig and disable the Selective Startup. You can follow these instructions:
- click start > click run
- in the dialog box type msconfig and click OK
- choose tab startup and uncheck those items below: (you can always check them again)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

- reboot your compter and check “do not show this message etc….”
Here is my latest HJT file. :)

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Ewido Anti Malware is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

You can look at this general article for prevention.
