I keep getting a pop up to to buy Win Antivirus Pro software. My Symantec antivirus software has quarantined the program each time and called it Winfixer. I have run the Winfixer(FixVundo) removal tool on the Atribune website as well as Sysprotect remover. However it is still on my computer. Also, within the past week I have caught another virus that opens on startup and it opens many popup windows that are named as Symantec Email Proxy. Each one says it cannot open mail. It continues to replicate until I kill it with the Task Manager. Below is my latest HiJack log.

  • A detailed description on how your computer is behaving
I had to go to another computer to get this message to you. My computer will not boot up in safe mode. I was at the point in your directions to reboot in safe mode. When I try to reboot the safe boot screen appears it then goes to a windows login sreen( I have a password to logon) after I enter the password it then goes back to the safe boot screen. At this point I get a window asking to continue in safe boot, when I reply either yes the computer hangs up and stops.( It does the same if I say no) I never get into safe boot mode. I've rebooted several times to get out of safe boot mode, but it won't allow me out. How do I reboot and get back to something operational. At the moment I have a useless computer that tries to go to safe mode and hangs up. I can't get to the logs files I've generated even if they are of help.
May I ask how'd you get into safe mode for the first time? Try opening your computer then tap F8 when you hear a beep then it will lead you to windows advanced options, choose last known configuration instead of safe mode.
I told the computer to enter safe mode by going to start, run, msconfig, and the boot.ini tab. I've never been able to successfdully get into safe mode. Everytime after I hit enter to go to safe mode it goes to a windows password login screen and waits for me to enter my PW. After that I get the safe mode screen and a window asking if I want to go to safe mode. Before I can hit Yes or No I get a beep, the popup disappears and the safe mode screen appears but I cannot get the computer to respond to any keys. I can only get out by going to the task manager(cntrl-alt-de) and selecting restart or turn off under the shutdown tab. I've tried booting with the last know good configuration, but I get the exact same results.
Hey, may I ask why did you use msconfig to boot to safe mode? My instructions clearly states that you use F8 to boot to safe mode. Next time, if you encounter any problems regarding my instructions, please post back first and do not proceed on your own.

1. Configure the computer to start from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. For information about how to do this, see your computer documentation, or contact your computer manufacturer.
2. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
3. When you receive the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM.
4. When you receive the "Welcome to Setup" message, press R to start the Recovery Console.
5. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you have to use from the Recovery Console.
6. When you are prompted, type the administrator password, and then press ENTER (if none was set, leave it blank and press ENTER).
7. At the command prompt, type bootcfg /list, and then press ENTER. The entries in your current Boot.ini file appear on the screen.
8. At the command prompt, type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER. This command scans the hard disks of the computer for Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows NT installations, and then displays the results. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to add the Windows installations to the Boot.ini file. For example, follow these steps to add a Windows XP installation to the Boot.ini file:

a. When you receive a message that is similar to the following message:
Total Identified Windows Installs: 1
[1] C:\Windows
Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All)
Press Y hit ENTER.

b. When, you receive a message that is similar to the following message:
Enter Load Identifier
This is the name of the operating system. Type the name of your operating system, and then press ENTER. The name is either Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.

c. When you receive a message that is similar to the following:
Enter OS Load options
Type /fastdetect, and then press ENTER.

Take the CD out of the drive.

Type exit then press ENTER.

Note The instructions that appear on your screen may be different, depending on the configuration of your computer.
I've used msconfig many times to enter safe mode. If it doesn't accomplish the same result then your directions should have told me to not under any circumstance to deviate. Your text even told me for further help to click on "HERE" and it taked about using msconfig. I didnlt realize there was a diffrence. I don't have an XP disk with my computer. I was not given one according to the people who sold me my computer. They also didn't partition a recovery area on my hard drive. Therefore the people where I bought the computer are sending me an XP Pro disk. By the way, looking at your instructions, will I be reloading the op system and basicly doing a recovery so my computer is back to its original state? In other words wiping the drive and reloading from scratch, which in turn should not have the virus?
