hi, guys,
my dads pc has had an annoying startup message that says - error loading newdotnet.
i have been on newdotnets website and that gives you 4 procedures to try to remove it but none of them work? if i go through the registry and delete all the keys found for newdotnet,
then reboot, it doesnt come back on bootup, but on next reboot and thereafter it still comes back?
how can i get rid of this annoying thing?
he has xp home!
in msconfig there is a newdotnet with a tick in it,but every time i untick it then click apply then reboot it always comes back?
there must be something reinstalling it somewhere?
i have run spybot and went on startup items and newdotnet is there too,and i have tried deleting it from startup but it always comes back on reboot?
where the hell is this thing?
hope you guys can help!
thanks agenthank!

here is my hijackthis log!

Welcome to the forum, my name is Ken and I will be helping you clean up your computer. We need to do a few things first before we get into actually removing NewDotNet.

Your HIJACKTHIS program is current, but it is very important that it resides in its own folder.
We will use Hijackthis (HJT) to make changes to your system and HJT will make backups of those changes,
If HJT is not in its own folder, those backups could be lost.

Easy to fix,
* just go to My Computer > YOUR C:\ DRIVE > Program Files and create a new folder and name it Hijackthis .
* Now scroll to where you have HJT currently, right click on the HJT icon and select CUT .
* Now open the new folder you just created and right click within that folder and select PASTE .
* Now HJT should reside in C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe

Please do not proceed until you have moved HJT

Now we need to temporarally disable a couple of programs that may interfere with the fix.

We must disable the Real-Time Protection feature of Windows Defender for it may interfere with the fix.

To disable Real-Time Protection:
  • Go to "Tools" | "General Settings"
  • Scroll down to "Real-time protection >Options"
  • Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection (recommended)"
  • Remember to reactivate this feature when we have finished all our work.

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix.
  • Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,NewDotNetStartup -s

If these were set by a systems adminstrator, you may have to get permission to disable them, they may not let you access the Control Panel which is needed for part of the fix.

Not always but sometimes removing NewDotNet will disrupt your internet access, so
download this tool first to your desktop, only use it in the event you lose internet access after removing
NewDotNet.
Winsockxpfix

Please open your Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall New.Net or
NewDotNet from there if listed. If it is not listed, follow these instructions:
  • From a computer that has Internet access, click on the following link:
    Uninstall .
  • Download and save uninstall6_90.exe to the Desktop.
  • Go to the Desktop and double-click on uninstall6_90.exe
  • Click on the OK button.
  • After removal, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot even if not prompted.

Post a new HJT log and let me know if the removal was successful.
