Hi,

I get random popups even when I'm not on the Internet. As a result, my usage is always at 100%, with iexplore.exe taking up most of that.

Also, I have 3 trojan horses which AVG is able to detect and says that they've been healed, but they keep coming back.

I've run AVG, Adware, and Spybot several times to no avail.

Any help will be much appreciated. Here's my log file.

Thanks

ps: are there any programs/processes that I don't need which are taking up valuable memory/resources?

Hello styllen and Welcome to TomCoyote,

Let's start with the following:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
Susan,

Thanks for replying. Here is my VundoFix log and my new HijackThis log. Btw, the 2 trojans are: (1) Trojan horse Downloader.Generic2.LGT; and (2) Trojan horse Downloader.Generic2.WI

Let us know if any problems persist.
I fixed the selected problems in HijackThis, but when I started the panda scan, serious problems occurred. While the scan was running, popups began appearing rapidly and AVG began detecting trojans that never existed before. At the same time, something called "SystemDoctor2006" began performing its own scan on my computer. I don't know where this "doctor" came from. Then I got a message that Windows Explorer had a problem and needed to be shut down. Once I did that and rebooted my computer, I was able to see my wallpaper but no icons or start menu. At the same time, explorer.exe caused my usage to be at 100%. I rebooted but the same problem occurred. After trying for the second time, I was able to reboot to safe mode. As I am writing this, popups are appearing left, right, and centre. Please advise on what I should do next. I hope that I don't have to format because I have important files that I haven't backed up yet. Should I use system restore? I erased the backlog of restores yesterday. When safemode loads, I get a message asking if I want to proceed with safemode or use system restore. Is this the way to access system restore, if that is what you suggest I do? Thanks again.
I would try the system restore and maybe you will be able to restore to after you cleared the restore points and to before this problem. I am sorry about the problem.
I ran Spybot, Adware, and Ewido after restoring.

Glad to see you are back! I would hate for anything bad to happen again. But for precautions could you back-up your important files?
=================
This generates a report but does not clean anything. I want to see the Vundo files and if there is anything else that stands out.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

You may receive pop-up asking if you will allow script to run when you perform the following instructions. Please allow the script to run.

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."…then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.
I backed up my most important files. I'm praying that I don't have to format. Anyways, here is the log file. BTW, should I remove the 5 entries in HijackThis that you asked me to remove in one of the previous posts? They came back after system restore. Thanks again. Susan,

I did what you asked, but my paranoia might have interferred with the results. The scan found a L2M trojan, but just as I was about to click "Remove", AVG popped up saying it found a L2M trojan. I clicked "Heal" to close the window, and then I clicked "Remove". The program said that it was successfully removed, but I was afraid that clicking "Heal" in AVG affected what the Destroyer program was intending to do, so after shutting down and rebooting, I ran the Destroyer scan again. This time the L2M trojan didn't appear. I thought that I would be able to save both log files (i.e. by running the scan twice), but only the most recent scan has a log. Hence, you might not find what you were looking for. Sorry.

Here are the logs for the most recent Destroyer scan, and HijackThis:

We will find out what happened. I just need to look at fresh reports again. You do not need to download it again if you still have it.
