I have no idea what I'm doing with my computer, but a pop up occurs at my bottom right toobar, and a white envelope appears. After this, a file is on my C temp or C Windows System 32 folders. It's happening again, and I thought I'd fixed it. This is my log. I'll check in on a different computer. Can someone help me? I've recovered my system and nothing is working….

hi glennwobbly,

you could do this manually but why not download and run ewido.

* Install Ewido Anti-Malware, 30 day trial version.

http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe

* Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido

You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.

* On the top of the main screen click Shield
* Click the word active to change it to inactive
* On the top of the main screen click Update.
* Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

* ,run Ewido.
* Click Scanner
* Click on the Scan tab
* Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
* When the scan is complete click Recommended Action and change it to Quarantine
* Then click Apply all actions

Once finished, click the Save report button, then click Save Report As. This will create a text file.

Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).

reboot once, then rescan with hjt and post anew log for me

shelf life

And here's the ewido scan (note that something called Proxy.Host.dd or something like that had an "error during quarantining" or something… I'm not sure if the report indicates this):

Thanks a lot for the help,
Joshua
hi glennwobbly, check for updates to ewido and your antivirus, dont scan yet we will do it in safe mode. after updating boot computer into safe mode. to reach safe mode tap the f8 key during a computer restart, chsoe the first option safe mode. once in safe mode run your antivirus software then ewido. save the ewido report also from safe mode. last: see if you can manually find and delete this file: wndregmon32.DLL located here>>C:\WINDOWS\System32, when you get to the system32 dir, click on "name" at the top to sort for easier finding. rescan and post a new hjt log and the saved ewido log….. shelf life
I couldn't find that C: Windows/system32 file you mentioned. I did remember seeing that file name listed in the error scan, though, and perhaps it was quarantined? Or could it be hidden within a folder in system32?

Here are the "safe mode" logs. The ewido log looks a lot different now, only 12 errors. I'm not sure if this is a result of the previous list of errors being quarantined as well. Of course, I don't know anything about this stuff.

Thanks again,
glennwobbly

you can delete/dump all the stuff ewido quarantined…………shelf life
Thanks a million for all the help. That cleanout seemed to get rid of a lot of suspicious junk.

It seemed to work ok at first, but this morning I am online to do some of my work, which is online, and I left the internet on to see how long I could go and indeed prove the computer cleaned. And it last about 30 minutes, which was an improvement. But then ewido informed me of the same system32 file as before, and I see that this time there are a few to be deleted upon reboot, one in system32 and one in temp.

I selected to "clean and quarantine" all of the files that popped up (about 7, the aforementioned a few times a piece). After I get the ewido warning, the envelopes start popping up in my lower right toolbar screen. If that goes on long enough, a "scanning message" box pops up, as if a messenger alert. I quickly turn off the internet DSL box when this happens, though.

I did another hjt scan just now, after the popups happened. I'm going to go online again to post this message and then copy and paste my work onto word so I can work offline. Aside of that, I try and stay offline except to check for post updates and do work the past week.

Let me know if you're interested in seeing another ewido scan, perhaps done in safe mode.

Thanks so much,
glennwobbly

hi glennwobbly,

lets see if this helps:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

shelf life
I guess the vundo thing didn't find anything. However, there is something I am curious about, and maybe it's really really a far off and wacky question, but does a file in my WINDOWS/system 32 folder called atmoUn sound suspicious? I only ask because it was "created" on August 17 2006. That is the day that I recovered my computer system, so something could have been "created" that day, but it is not a text file or something like that. It's an application of some kind with its own icon and everything. And when I click to open it a pop up reads: Installer verification failed. This could be the result of an incomplete download, a failing disk, or (possibly) corruption from a virus. You can try to force an install using the /NCRC command line switch (but it is NOT reccommended). It's an NSIS Error. I'm just kind of grasping.

Hi, shelf life. Sorry to be such a nuisance, but I'm still having problems. I deleted that file that I was suspicious of last we spoke. Everything seemed fine for a day, but then the ewido popups resumed, telling me that the WINDOWS/system 32 wndregmon32.DLL file and Temp files that always started with "win" were again found on my computer. I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking of taking my computer into Best Buy where the warranty is from for a cleaning, but I'm not sure that would work. If you had any final suggestions, I'm sure they would be helpful. If not, thank you for all of your time and help. –Joshua
Another virus detected… I also scanned a file from WINDOWS folder and the result was returned thusly: Kaspersky File Scanner Attention!
