CoolWWWSearch.Search Toolbar

Hi, I just ran Spybot Search and Destroy which found CoolWWWSearch.Search Toolbar. I hit the Fix button in Spybot and then reran Spybot. It was clean on the second run. I then ran the following HJT scan. It looks clean to me, but I'd like your expert eyes please. You'll notice I have the latest and greatest McAfee, yet it apparently allowed CoolWWWSearch. Search Toolbar to be installed. Any comment on that? Note that I had disabled Spybot Teatimer (real time protection) when I installed the McAfee suite. Maybe I should go back to the Spybot Teatimer and turn off the McAfee real time protection. What do you think. Does my system look clean to you now? By the way, I have not rebooted. Is it likely CoolWWWSearc will come back following a reboot? Should I set a system restore point before rebooting? TIA.

Please note that The Browser Helper Object that are missing in this log are all related to McAfee if these are still required
you will need to re-install these later..

Step 1.

You will need To "Disable" all Your Real-time Protection until this system is running fine.

To Disable the Windows Defender Real-time Protection,

Open Windows Defender
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender

Please also Disable the McAfee Real-time protection..


Please now Update Ewido
You are using the old version of Ewido anti-malware if it is the:
paid-for version - you will need to go here and obtain an updated license code before you upgrade.
for the free version - you will need to uninstall it and reboot before installing the new version.

Download the New trial version of Ewido Anti-Spyware
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

The program should launch automatically after installation. If not, double-click the desktop icon.

Deactivate the "Ewido Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

Ewido automatically updates the spyware definitions if you are connected to the net during installation.
As a precaution, click the "Update" icon from the main menu.
Then click the "Start Update" button.
When you receive the "Update successful" prompt, close Ewido.
Note: If you have any problems with the updater, you can Update Ewido Manually.
Do not Scan with this yet!

Now Download the stand alone version of CWShredder from here.
Open CWShredder and click "I AGREE" Then Close
Do not Scan with this yet!


Step 2.

Please Re-Scan with HijackThis and place a "checkmark" next to these entries:

Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed and select "Fix checked". Exit Hijack This


Now Reboot into Safe Mode.
Shut down your system, then Restart your computer as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8 from the menu select the option to enter Safe Mode.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

• Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
• Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
• Click the "Delete Cookies" button
• Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
• When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

Now open CWShredder. then select Fix and then Ok, let it fix everything it asks about.

Reopen Ewido Anti-Spyware and click the "Scanner" icon from the main menu.
Click "Complete System Scan" to start scanning.
When the scan completes, click "Recommended action" beneath the results window and select "Quarantine".
Then click the "Apply all actions" button to quarantine everything detected.
Then click Save report > Save report as and save the Report-Scan.txt to your desktop.
Then Reboot back into Normal Mode


Step 3.

Please Update your Sun Java console

Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
Then using Add/Remove Select any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name and uninstall.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java from your system.

Reboot your computer

Then CLICK HERE select the Download button next to "J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8"

Hi ourwilly. Looks like computer is clean. Following is HJT log and after that is ewido report. Just out of curiosity, why did you specify I use the offline option for installing the Java upgrade? Without your specification, I would have used the online install. Also, I assume now is a good time to turn off System Restore. Got any pointers on that, or anything else? Here're the reports.
