I switched from nortons to mcafee recently and that has helped, but my computer takes forever to boot and then slows down the longer it's booted up. I run adaware and spybot, as well as windows washer periodically and that does seem to help, but only for a while. thank you, in advance, for your help.

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

No problem about the delay, judging from the number of posts, you guys are pretty busy. Here is the scan from today. The computer has been running without a reboot for a couple of days now. Things like AOL load extremely slow and it is sluggish loading any other application. As I originally stated, it slows down over time and doesn't improve without a reboot, which takes quite a while (I usually go fix my coffee while it boots and maybe go take a shower

You have a number of bad guys there. It will take a number of post to get everything.

Download DelDomains.inf
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click and select….. Save Target As….Save

To use: Right-click and select……. Install (no need to restart)
**Note** This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone"

Next:
Please download Qoofix by RubbeR DuckY from one of the following locations:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/Qoofix.zip or
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/Qoofix.zip

Unzip all files to a convenient location such as C:\Qoofix.
Go to the folder you unzipped all files and run Qoofix.exe.
Click Begin Removal and wait for the scan to finish.
If an infection has been found, select yes to restart your computer.

Finally post a new Hijack This log and the contents of the Qoofix logfile.

Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Sorry for the delay, was out of the house for a while.
I've done step 1 and my computer is chugging away looking for the sdrfl.exe file right now. At the moment it's running slower than it should, there was quite a delay in loading Outlook and running the search file at the same time. I'll probably not get to the ATF cleaner until the morning. Will give you feedback then.

No sdrfl.exe or C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe found.
Did the ATF cleaner and rebooted. Did not see much difference. The computer seems stable and running OK, but I'll need to monitor it for a few days to see if performance starts to degrade.

Is the nwiz.exe I see anything to worry about?

Associated with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. However, this isn't necessary for the operation of your system

Please open HijackThis to the misc tools section, click the Delete an NT Service button and paste in the following.

.NET Connection Service

Make sure you get the period in front!

Click OK and reboot your computer. If you get a message that it cannot be deleted (in use), click the back button and scan again. Fix the following entry.

O23 - Service: .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

Reboot and try deleting the service again.

Click Start>run and type cmd then hit enter. Copy and paste the following two commands on the command line, one at a time, hitting enter after each. You may get a file not found message, which is OK.

attrib -r -s -h C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
del C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

Scan again with HijackThis to make sure the 023 entry is gone.

If still there try the above with

.NET Framework Service

Tried everything you suggested, but it wouldn't allow me to delete the service

That bad guy doesn't want to die.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Click start->run->type services.msc.
Hit enter.
Double-click the following service:

.NET Connection Service (OR) .NET Framework Service (Which ever one is listed)

Click 'stop', to stop the service if it is running, and set to 'disabled' in the pull down menu under the 'Startup type' section'
Exit services.msc

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O23 - Service: .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Boot into Safe Mode.
Windows 2000, XP:
1. Restart the computer
2. Watch the screen while it is black. After the BIOS memory check is done, start tapping the F8 key. If done right, the Windows Advanced Options Menu will appear.
3. Select Safe Mode from the menu. Starting Windows in Safe Mode may take several minutes

I am going to have you remove this bogus service by doing the following:
Click Start-> Run and type cmd in the Open: line. Click OK.
* Copy/paste in the following in bold: sc delete .NET Connection Service
* Hit Enter
* Type: Exit
* Hit Enter

Locate and delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

Reboot normally

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Did as you requested:
Unhid the files,
Disabled .NET Framework Service,
Ran a scan and it was no longer listed, so I could not select to be "fixed".

Continued on and booted in safe mode, when I did the "sc delete .NET Connection Service" the computer returned the message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I took a chance and tried "sc delete .NET Framework Service" but got the same message.

I could not find C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe either.

The computer is running fine at the moment. Speed seems fine, but I would need to monitor this over a period of time to see if it starts to slow down. Boot speed is getting better, as is shut down speed.

Do the below and I'll leave this open for day or two. Let me know how it goes.

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
