Lots of spyware

Hello, I think this computer has a lot of spyware. There aren't a lot of random popups but lots of other unusual stuff. For example, I've gotten a bunch of messages from thoses malware programs that pretend to be spyware removers. I've used Ad-aware, xsoftspy, spybot and many others but can't get rid of them. Also, whereever I restart, I get the message that you get when you change some startup item through msconfig. And lately, all the sites that use Windows Media Player to play videos don't work. Non of these are porn sites, incase you were wondering, but sites like break.com. This may be caused by one of the new anti-spyware programs I downloaded. I would rather not have to restore the computer so if there is anything anyone can do to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop from here:

VundoFix.exe

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

1. Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
2. Click the Scan for Vundo button.
3. Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
4. If it doesn't find anything, in the main program window, choose "Add more files?". Type this in the box EXACTLY AS SHOWN:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\awtss.dll

Click Close Window, then Remove Vundo.

4. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
5. Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
6. When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
7. Turn your computer back on.

Post a new HijackThis! log, along with the contents of this file:

C:\vundofix.txt

into this thread.

Run it again, and "Add the file" per previous instructions. Don't run off… There are other things beside "Vundo" in the log you need to take care of… ;)

I ran it and it said no files found. So I add the file but it said it couldn't remove it but it would try when it reboots. But I didn't get any message after the computer started up. Here are the log files:

Download combofix.exe from the link below:

Combofix.exe

Save it to your desktop. <— VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Go to Start –> Run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /v awtss

Then hit or click OK

When finished, it will produce a log for you.

Post that log in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis! log.

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

I ran it and after the restart it ran Disk Cleanup. But it has been stuck on calculating how much space it can free up for about 5-10 mins now, its scanning "Office Setup Files". I still have it going but no change. But i found the log files:

You must extract avenger.exe to your desktop, before you run it.

Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard.

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AWTSS.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SSTWA.INI
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SSTWA.TMP


The above script is for this user only, if you need help please start your own thread.

Start the Avenger.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
Click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script".
Paste the entire text in into this window.
Click done, now click on the Green Light
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
Your computer shoud reboot, and briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.

After the restart, it will create a log file that should open.
This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
Paste the contents of the file into your reply along with a fresh HJT log.

Also: Avenger has made backups of all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, located at C:\avenger\backup.zip.

hey, I couldn't find the folders so I guess they were removed. I checked the files on Kaspersky and the following were found to be viruses: C:\WINDOWS\system32\kspmcbns.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wccjhcva.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ngqocmqr.exe I deleted them to the recycle bin, should I permenatly delete time or wait? So far it seems to running good, no random popup, just from individual sites, which firefox stops. I still can't see windows media files on websites, any idea which one of my programs might do that? I just recently got the McAfee viruscan right around the same time it stoped working. I was think of uninstalling the player and reinstalling and seeing what happens. But everything else seem to working fine. Thank You very much for your help. Parth

Permanantly delete the files flagged as "viral".

About your media player problem….

The last time someone I helped had problems with it, the "uninstall/reinstall" worked first time. I can't guarantee your results would be the same.

It can be a lot quicker that trying to troubleshoot…

Hey I just realized this but my Internet Explorer doesn't seem to working. I can't go to any sites. My homepage is about:blank and when I try to go anywhere it just stays on that page. The microsoft logo on the top right hand of the page moves but the site doesnt come up. My internet is working because firefox works. Any idea what the problem could be?
