Welcome to the forum, if you still need help, I see room for improvement in your log, you have a hugh resource user in Symantec/Norton and there is not much you can do about it except dump them. So you need to do everything you can to compensate. I'll have some other maintenance suggestions before we are are finished. Can you tell me if you own Webroot\Spy Sweeper?

1) You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif
Please use the information in the following link to place HJT in a permanent, safe folder, I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
do this before you proceed.

2) C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge.
I suggest you remove this resource waster in Add Remove programs, see this information:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/arch…4.php#viewpoint

3) I need to make sure you are aware these surveilance programs are installed:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptrun32\ptrun32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptrun32\ptr32w.exe
http://www.parent-tools.com/

4) This is optional: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE Read about it here:
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-180.html if you do not want it removed, pass over it in the instructions.

5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(The R1/R0 items are not making your browser run faster, BUT you may need some of them, click them to see where they take you. If you don't need it, remove it, you can stell set any home page you wish in Internet Explorer)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us9.hpwis.com/

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, let me know how the computer is running now and post the information I requested above.

Thanks…pskelley

Here is my new log - even though I did what you said (& rechecked by doing some parts again), several of the R1 items continue to show up anyway. Hope this is normal. I'm aware of the Parent tools program; & uninstalled viewpoint manager.

I do own & use Webroot spy Sweeper, but also have Norton Internet Security. Seems like on occasion one finds things that the other one does not, hence the duplicated efforts.

Also, when I turn off my computer, I often get errors that "ccApp" and SpySweeper are having trouble closing, which sometimes hangs my computer up. And, upon restart, SpySweeper often tells me that "AutoTBar.exe" has been added to my toolbar, which I always then delete. Would love to know how to prevent it to begin with!

Thanks for everything.
Merritt

Hi Merritt, taking a look now, no problem about SpySweeper, it is a good program. I don't use it except for the trial period because it is not freeware. If you did not own it I would have suggested you uninstall it, gives few benefits after the trial. You know what the R1/R0 items are now and it is probably SS causing them to stay, this information may be slightly old:
SpySweeper: Open the program
On the left, click: Options, then > Program Options
Uncheck: Load at windows startup
Again on the left click: Shields and uncheck all items there.
Uncheck: Home Page Shield
Uncheck: Automatically restore default without notification

Remove the lines then reverse the proceedure with SpySweeper.

This: AutoTBar.exe is related to this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/a…ar.exe-439.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoTKit] C:\hp\bin\AUTOTKIT.EXE
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-307.html My suggest would be to delete it if you do not know what it is and don't use it.

You have this toolbar also, which is option. I will leave it alone, you can do as you wish with it:
O3 - Toolbar: HP View - {B2847E28-5D7D-4DEB-8B67-05D28BCF79F5} - c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpdtlk02.dll

Let's do this if it works for you:

1) Disable SpySweeper

2) Make sure hidden files and folder are showing just in case.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://login.passport.net/uilogin.srf?lc=1033&id=2
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us9.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us9.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-us9.hpwis.com/
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoTKit] C:\hp\bin\AUTOTKIT.EXE

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\hp\bin\AUTOTKIT.EXE <<< delete that file (leave it sit in the recycle bin for a few days to make sure there is no problem with it)

Restart the computer, if all is running well I do not need to see another HJT log. Here is some valuable information for you.
