When I turn on the computer, the RAM amount displays, then the Compaq logo displays, then Windows trys to start. XP trys to start for about 7 to 12 seconds then the system reboots and the process is repeated until I turn off the machine or enter SAFE mode. I have PC Cillin 2005, it is not responsive when buttons are clicked. I used a tool from Trend that did remove multiple trojans: TROJ_TIBS.JQ (4 entries), TROJ_VB.AZV, TROJ_DLOADER.DLH and TROJ_Generic, TSPY_SINOWAL.DP, TROJ_DELF.CES.

One time XP did start up, I was locked out as administrator and was unable to change any system settings, including a restore. A small box was in the center of the screen saying file not found with an OK click button. Yes, it was clicked mulitple times.

I have Spyware Doctor, Spyware Blaster and Ad-Aware installed. With all of this we still got suckered.

Please help. This log was created in SAFE mode.

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

I can see several "bad boys" in the log. :(

Maybe removing them will help….

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {77701e16-9bfe-4b63-a5b4-7bd156758a37} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [updwebmin] c:\windows\system32\updwebmin.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ttool] C:\WINDOWS\scvs.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\scvs.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\c8f6657f61b.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\updwebmin.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode (<– I'm hoping…) and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
Followed your steps then tried opening in XP. The symptoms remain the same. Here's the 2nd log. I Very Much appreciate your time. :D

Fix this one:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InnoSetupRegFile.0000000001] "C:\WINDOWS\is-AMQ7U.exe" /REG

Reboot.

Delete this file:

Reboot and post a new HijackThis! log file.
:)
The last one appeared to be Spybot. Symptoms are the same. I have faith!

    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
      select "Quarantine".
    • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
    • Click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds.
    • Save the logfile from the scan.
    Reboot.

Post the Ewido log, and a new HijackThis! log.
    :)
Same thing. The new software found 6 additional trojans. I quarantined per your instructions. I wasn't sure from you posting, but, I rebooted to full XP instead of SAFE. The HighJackThis log is following the failed reboot, the ewido log is prior to the reboot.

Run it again and have it remove what it finds.
:)
I'm running it now. It takes about 15 minutes. I noticed the NO ACTION too. I verified they are in the quarantine file. It indicated they were encrypted. I'll be back.
I might as well give you "the bad news" now……

:(

C:\WINDOWS\system32:lzx32.sys

Appears to be this:

Troj/RKRustok-A

That's a "rootkit" infection.

It can (and does) "hide" itself from Windows.

It can also destabilize Windows to the point it doesn't work (kind of like what you're experiencing).

The recommendation for a "rootkit" is to backup your data, reformat, and re-install because we can never be sure we get the entire infection (because it "hides" from Windows).
:(
Hmmmm. O well, if I must I must. I dont think it will happen tonight. Again, I really appreciate your help. It will be about a week before I will have time to re-install. I'll post at that time. ——————————————————— ewido anti-spyware - Scan Report ——————————————————— + Created at: 9:10:32 PM 8/11/2006 + Scan result: Nothing found. ::Report end
Nope. Same result. You know, my first post I mentioned a small box that was clicked on. It mentioned Project 1. Searching the internet shows and old virus called aolwar8 which would overwrite the sys.ini and do some other damage. I will go back and follow your link on the rootkit. I saw a few things yesterday re: those.
