Hello-Thanks for checking out this log. I have already run Spybot S&D and Ewido Suite. I uninstalled Ad-Aware because I heard they will "overlook" paying spyware. It seems like my internet has the hiccups. My ISP said my connections are all fine, that I may have spyware that is messing with me.
Below is my HJT log.

cburson,

Sorry for the delay in responding but you replied to yourself and it took you out of the zero replies catagory that we look for logs to work.

I am not looking at anything out of the ordinary on your log.

Run this system cleaner and lets get rid of all the gunk.
If you dont want the Yahoo ToolBar installed, be sure to uncheck during the installation of CCleaner
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
Tutorial for CCleaner

You have Ewido installed, have it set up this way, run the scan and I need to see the report.

* Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
* Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
* On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
* Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
* Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
* Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine
* Under Reports
* Select Automatically generate report after every scan
* Un-Select Only if threats were found
* Close Ewido Anti-Spyware <– Do not run the scan yet.

Boot your computer into Safemode

* Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
* Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the Enter on your Keyboard

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:

* Lauch Ewido-Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
* Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
* Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
* Once the scan is complete do the following:
* If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
* Next select the Reports icon at the top.
* Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
*** make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
* Close Ewido

Post a new HJT log and the Ewido Report
Thanks for the help. I re-installed Ewido, ran CCleaner and HJT again.
Below are the reports. I also uninstalled The Weather Desktop. Thought maybe that
was my problem because it is constantly updating.

There is a balloon that says I need to update to Service Pack 2. I heard that I should not do that. What do you think about it?

Again, thanks for all you do!

cburson,

I have personally installed SP2 on about 100 or more systems and have never had a problem. The key is to get your ducks in a row. This is a much needed update that you should have that will block a lot of dangerous stuff from getting into your system.

1. Make sure your system is virus and malware free.
2. Defraggment your hard drive to make it nice and tidy.
3. Turn off any firewalls
4. Disable your AV.
5. Disable any spyware programs that could interfere with the download and installation

Ewido found nothing bad

I cant read your log the way its posted, look at the first log you posted into this thread, it needs to be that way. Do this.

Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad, go to Format and make sure WordWrap is checked, then to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
Okay, I have a serious problem. I did the install balloon thing that kept popping up. Then I tried to open an Excel document and my whole Excel program is gone! I need that back, along with all my documents. Is there anyway to tell if I've lost anything else, besides just waiting until I try to open something? Can I get my computer back to what it was before that install I did this morning?

Below is the HJT log again, sorry it was wrong the first time. Thanks so much for all you do!

cburson, :D

I dont know exactly what you did, I have never lost anything with all the service pack upgrades. I see you are still at SP1 and have not upgraded to SP2. Are you saying when you go into My Documents that its all gone?? If you see excel docs in there without the excel icon but cant open them, you may have to reinstall Excel.

Is this a program that you use –> C:\Program Files\Pronto

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous (jre) installations.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify

Your log is free of any malware, if you cant open your documents, it could be a windows issue and I can direct you to some excellent windows tech support sites.

Ken :D

I will remove what you suggested below. I do use Pronto every now and then. But whenever I'm running a lot of applications I will end the process for it in Task Manager.
I went to the online chat support for HP. They showed me how to restore my system back to how it was running prior to those updates. He told me that I did not appear to have the memory to ensure a successful SP2 download and that was what probably caused my excel to quit. It was real weird though. All my files and such were there, but it was requesting that I install it from my xp home and student disk. At any rate, I will do as he suggested and increase my memory. (Couldn't hurt anything.) ;) Then I'll try again with the update.
I will also update my Java. (Thought I had recently.)
Thanks so much for all your help. You're the best! :)
cburson, Hope things pan out with your files, the rest of your log looks ok. I'll leave this thread open for you for a week or so in case you need to post back. Ken :D
