Various attempts at removal have been unsuccessful. c2lop came up after a Microsoft Defender Scan. Was not able to remove or quarentine the file. Current antivirus software now damaged, and cannot add or remove that program (McAfee). Have tried installing other anti-virus programs, but blocked by the damaged McAfee program. I did go thru 40+ steps (directed by McAfee chat line) to try to remove all components of McAfee, but still unsuccessful. Please advise on the best way to get my computer back up and running smoothly. thanks.

Run it from that folder.

DO NOT "FIX" ANYTHING WITH IT YET!!!

The log you posted is incomplete. I do see a few minor corrections we could make, if you post a complete log. I don't see LOP. What makes you think you have it?
Thanks, this is copied from the notebook that opened when I did a scan of the HJT log.

When I scanned my computer using the microsoft defender, the C2LOP came up twice, but I could not remove or quarantine.

Thanks for the help.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

You'll also need to disable (NOT UNINSTALL!!) SpySweeper for these changes to take effect.

I'm afraid I don't know the exact clicks to do that.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot.

That's all the "fluff" I can see that needs removed, Kat.

If Microsoft Windows Defender is finding it, you'll need to post the exact location (registry entries, files, whatever) for me to go any further.

I'm still not seeing it.
De nada.

One thing to consider is this:

LOP can and will affect ALL USER ACCOUNTS on an XP machine.

If there are other user accounts on the machine, THEY may be infected.

I'd have to see a log made from each account to be sure.
:)
OK, yes my son has a user on account on my computer as well, is there a way to scan that account without him here? Thanks. I followed your instructions, then enabled the defender program again and ran it, this is ther error that came up when trying to remove c2.Lop: c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\favorites\games.url
Darn, it is password protected, so I cannot actually logon to his side of the system. Once he gets home, some time tonight, I will try again. Thanks for all your help. I will post again, once I do the same HJT to his account. thanks again.
Hi Micah 6;8–

Here is the pasted log for my sons log file:

Let me know if there is anything more I need to do in regards to this issue?

Thanks, Kat
