G'Day! :wavey: and welcome to the TomCoyote forums.
My name is Vino Rosso - if it helps, you can call me
Vino for short. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a little time to research and, while I complete my training, all my recommended fixes will be checked by an expert.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Finally, please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Thanks

Back soon!

Vino
G'day :wavey: and thanks Vino!!! :D I am pretty good at dealing with most of my own problems but this "MyWay" stuff is beyond me. Let me mates kid use the machine and he had downloaded those silly smileys wihout my knowing until it was too bloody late. :rant2: As I never use the IM proggies they are used for, or the email clients (only Thunderbird and Firefox) I didn't even notice until S&D kept showing the web search bit. Did a search and there were dozens of .rar files marked MyWay which I cleared out, but I get 2 new ones every bloody day! I have used every cleaning tool I could find, shareware as I am too broke to pay attention, but I am not really good enough to go fooling around in the registry. So, here I am and here you are and I await your advice and assistance. :)
G'Day MexDownunda, I hear it's a cool 8C in Perth this morning.

Yes, you have a few remnants of MyWebSearch to deal with and your Java needs updating to 5.0_07. So let's go…

1 - Program Download
Please download to your Desktop ATF Cleaner by Atribune from
>here<. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only. It does not require any installation and uses minimal system resources. It is set up to clean IE, FireFox and Opera, and detects the browsers you have and greys out the other(s).
We will use this program later.

2 - Remove Programs
Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
If present, remove the following programs:

MyBar or MyWebSearch

3 - Remove Java
Go to Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs
Search for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment…. )
(It should have this icon next to it: [external image: Posted Image])
Click that entry and then click on the Change/Remove button and follow the instructions to remove Java

4 - Run HJT Scan
Run a scan with HijackThis and tick the following entries, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbaredits/…html?p=ZNfox000

Close all windows except HijackThis
Select Fix Checked in HijackThis.

5 - Delete suspect files/folders
Boot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and keep tapping F8 until the menu appears.
Use your up and down arrow keys to select Safe Mode.
NB You will not have access to the internet while in Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer, browse for the following files/folders and, if present, delete as instructed
C:\Program Files\
MyWebSearch <=== The whole folder

6 - Delete Temporary Files
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Recommend UNCHECKING COOKIES if you rely on system remembered passwords.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT FIREFOX SAVED PASSWORDS
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT COOKIES AND SAVED PASSWORDS
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your cookies and saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Empty the Recycle Bin and re-start your PC in Normal mode

7 - Update Java
Download and install the newest version of Java from
>here<

8 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide a new HijackThis log and let me know how your PC is behaving.

Remember, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.

Good Luck

Vino
