hi Lp57, hows everything on that end, computer running better? maybe no need to run the rest of the smitfraud fix( option #2 clean) not that it would hurt, but on a computer that no longer has smtifraud you might lose your backround desktop picture, you would just have to set it again. scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked. O2 - BHO: Nothing - {6ab7158b-4bff-4160-ad7d-4d622df548cf} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp101.tmp (file missing) shelf life
hi Lp57, ok go ahead and continue running the fix. "running the clean" which is done in safe mode, so i would copy/paste the rest of the directions to notepad and save them somewhere so you can read them in safe mode. shelf life
Yeah, I had actually gone ahead and done that. Those 3 logs were from smit being done in safe mode then I did a complete scan and clean with ewido in normal mode instead of safe mode. Wasn't thinking when i did it. my father had a really bad habit of downloading any little add on program he saw. He actually killed this pc twice because of mal and ad ware that he had dl'd. he doesn't use this PC anymore but I worry there may still be something hidden somewhere, but I just can't seem to find it. had the pc freeze twice yesterday after upgrading to media player 11 beta and a downloader working at the same time… ran ewido and smit in safe mode but only found 1 adware and it was removed. but when i rebooted the downloader started working again. just can't seem to find which it is without fine tooth combing through all the processes on Task manager. Plus I'm sadly not that tech savvy anymore. Anywho, thanks for all the help so far. I keep running the Yahoo Anti-spy and have nortons running…
hi Lp57

i'm still getting some downloader activity

whats telling you this?

the downloader started working again.

lets try this: silent runners by Andrew Aronoff

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

shelf life
Well, I assume a downloader is active when my PC bogs down and after about 30 minutes Norton does a few auto-virus scans of files that I never ok'd. Also, norton does on occasion find and delete a downloader and trojan. And I don't mean that as sarcastic as it comes across either… :o

does it provide the path to the file? it cant delete or heal or quarintine the file?

start hjt and click on "open misc tools section"
click delete a file on reboot
when new window opens, copy /paste this in then click open:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winvax32.dll (if it cant be found dont worry)

hi Lp57,

the winvax32 file is hiding as a .txt file… should I add that to the delete on reboot too?

yes, unless you can delete it manully. hjt needs the full path to the file in order to delete it.
