Hi!

I too am suffering from this iworm business. It gives me the pop ups, which are inconvinient: but it seems to also affect my wireless: (D link GWL 100 wireless usb adapter) by constantly cutting it out. That is frustrating! I'm hoping dealing with iworm will fix this nuissance

I have adaware and avast, both have been scan and ran to the point of them not picking anything up. I even did a boot scan with avast. All is up todate on the machine (I believe)

So I was hoping for some help to get ride of iworm.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, I have some problems even getting started on this log.

1) Your HJT.exe is very old, download from here: http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe
choose to "SAVE" the file and save it in the same folder you are using now. C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe
The new version will automatically replace the old version.

2) It is very important that you DO NOT run two antivirus programs at once, the conflictions can cause many problems. I see this:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe but then I see:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ If you have two running, please uninstall one of them.

3) I do see the Smitfraud Trojan in the log, and other junk also, but since I can not see a complete log I will not know all until you post it.
You may use this link: http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=61697
Follow the instruction and post the three logs at the end of the instructions, making sure HJT is version 1.99.1. I will respond as soon as possible after you post with the next instructions.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi! Thanks for your help. I followed the instructions. I've been having a few other computer issues, so sorry for the long response time: but first things first.

(apparently too long to post)
Thanks for returning this information, this version of SmitfraudFix was released on August 2. It has been updated twice since then to Version 2.81 (August 06, 2006)
To be sure, I would like you to delete all SmitfraudFix that you have and download it fresh from here: http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php Once you have it there is no need to do anything but "Clean" with it.

You have not posted the ewido log, please do so:
Please post:
c:\rapport.txt
Ewido log <<< post this ewido scan report
A new HijackThis log

How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{29123221-3AF8-488c-85DE-6B3EC59E8074}] C:\WINDOWS\netmedia.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [{29123221-3AF8-488c-85DE-6B3EC59E8074}] C:\WINDOWS\netmedia.exe
(next line, if you know what it is you may leave it. I can find nothing about it)
O4 - Startup: Shortcut to perfmon2.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfmon2.msc
O16 - DPF: {74CD40EA-EF77-4BAD-808A-B5982DA73F20} - http://yax-download.yazzle.net/YazzleActiveX.cab?refid=1123
O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} -
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winowl32 - winowl32.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\netmedia.exe <<< file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfmon2.msc <<< file

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer. I do not need to see the SmitfraudFix report from version 2.81, but I do need that ewido scan report, a new HJT log and your comments. How is the computer running now?

Thanks…Phil

Your Java program is out of date, see this information: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=1…amp;postcount=2 it must be kept up to date, if no one is going to check it manually I suggest you turn on autoupdates.
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04 <<< out of date.
Hi!

I can not thank you enough for your time and expertise! This

help (which is simple to follow!) is very much appriciated.

I cannot see/ hear/ taste/ smell any traces of the spy junk

we removed! Thanks again. All my iexplorer (which I never

use anyway) tool bars are gone too!

A new HJT is posted below.

Now, about this ewido scan
This is the file we are talking about, correct? Usually

located @
C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\Reports
named: Report-Scan-20060806-130816.txt

that would begin something like:

———————————————————
ewido anti-spyware - Scan Report

+ Created at: 1:08:16 PM 8/6/2006

+ Scan result:

This is the only scan I have done (They take forever!) But

the text file is 5.42mb! and out does the character limit by

a factor of 10!

If this is the correct file, is there some other way I can

get it to you? If it is not, could you give me a hint as to

where it may be?

Thanks once again for your help. This has fixed the spy ware problems. I've got a few others that I will post about in the other forum.

hussein

Oh yes, Can I remove (uninstall) Ewido. It doesn't allow my processor to settle down (when the computer is left at idle – this happends after i force quit it) I wont be needing it further will I?

[FYI: O4 - Startup: Shortcut to perfmon2.lnk =

C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfmon2.msc ] can be found under

C:\WINDOWS\system32 "perfmon": it is a windows system

monitor: I have been having issues with my Avg Disk Quota,

pages/sec and %processor whcih go abnormally high: with this

I can watch what is happening. perform2 is a custom version (changed specifics) which launches at startup so i don't have to launch it manually.]

For some reason you changed the format to "Word wrap" in notepad and my scanners can not scan that format? Click on "Format" at the top of notepad and uncheck "Word Wrap", leave it unchecked until we are done. Post a new HJT log. ewido scan: if it is that large it must be loaded with cookies. You can edit out all of the cookies and anything dealing with System Restore…we will clean that out a bit later. If ewido found that much stuff, you must be storing a lot of junk?? Thanks
Hi!

Okay, so I deleted anything with cookies in the ewido scan.
stuff that looked similar to:

Hi Phil, I decided to post this here because I think youre quite intimately informed with my comp. As you can see, there is a lot going on. To add insult to injury, apparently the windows XP version I have is no longer accepted by windows. It says I may be a victim of software counterfitting. So, I have my XP disk, and I tried using the update tool (key update) but I get an error saying i have no internet connexion, and well i was thinking, would it just be better to save what I need, and re install my xp from my disk? curious (and thankful for your help) hussein
I hope you are in the States, most of this information deals with the USA.
I would also say that if you have the problem and reinstall XP that does not mean the problem is going to go away.
Here are error messages numbers that may help: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527
You can talk to someone who will help you validate your copy of Windows at these numbers.

So you understand this problem is being caused by Microsoft and not you.

Now let's look at your logs.

This stuff: C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\ <<< is part of Norton, like a Norton recycle bin, and you need to clean that out, here are instructions for cleaning it:
Emptying the Norton Protected Recycle Bin
http://service1.symantec.com/support/nsw.n…src=bar_sch_nam

All of that junk you put in the ewido quarantine folder you can delete also.
Look here: C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\ <<< the quarantine folder should be in there. Open the folder and delete the contents (not the folder)

If you had a lot of cookies stored in Firefox, this information will help you stop that if you wish.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\ <<< Java is out of date, you must update see this:

Looks like you are probably in Toronto, I'll look for some Canadian links in case you need them, for the Windows Problem.
Your HJT log is clean, looks like the malware is gone. Here is information you need.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Thanks…Phil
Hi Phil – I felt like I did neet to ghost my computer. It just had a lot of stuff on it, that was not necessary. So I have installed a few of the programs that I had originally, and backed up what I needed earlier. But now I've got a new problem, I had a 60GB HD, and with this minimum of installation of stuff, I only have 7.65GB free. Any Ideas? awaiting your instruccions, and thanks again for all of the resources, hussein
Actually, new question: I searched my hard drive, and a lot of the stuff has remained after the reinstallation! how is this possible? is there a tool I can use to see what's occupying space, and what stuff I have on my computer (other than traditional XP methods) hussein
Okay, Then thank you for all of your help. I really appriciate it. As you know, malware can be highly irritating!!! Thanks again, hussein
