I'm getting random pop-ups while surfing through explorer. These pop-ups include, but aren't limited to, "The Best Offers, WinAntiVirusPro, SpywareRemoval, etc). I've tried cleaning with Spybot, but no luck. I use AVG Free Edition as an anti-virus. Below is my Hijack file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi brasskey,

I'm Gary R. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
Please be patient, I know that you want your problems solved quickly, and I will work hard to help you.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.

IMPORTANTIf you are using 64 bit Windows please let me know. The following instructions are only for use on 32 bit Windows.

You've got a Vundo infection on your computer.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If you get a no infected files found message, do the following.* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
* You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
* When VundoFix re-opens,Click Scan for Vundo button.
* Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
* Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes

o C:WINDOWSsystem32vtsrq.dll
o C:WINDOWSsystem32qrstv.*

* Click Add Files and Click Close Window
* Click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Turn your computer back on.
* Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Dont' worry about the wait Gary. I appreciate any help you give me. One thing I noticed before I post the logs, though it may not be important, is after I performed "Scan for Vundo", and told it to delete the file, a little window came up (titled Copy File) that said, "error: 75. Path/File access error." Anyways, here are my logs:

Hi brasskey,

Can you run Vundofix again, using the 2nd set of instructions I gave (repeated below). It seems the infected files are new ones, and will need to be added to the fix.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens,Click Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
  • Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes
    • C:WINDOWSsystem32vtsrq.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\qrstv.*
  • Click Add Files and Click Close Window
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
I've tried copying and pasting the file names and even typing them in the lines. But, when I select add files and I close the window, the files are still not added. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
OK, not sure what's going wrong there, but not to worry, we'll try a different tool.
  • Download VirtumundoBeGone to your desktop.
  • Shutdown your computer, and Boot Up into Safe Mode, by hitting the F8 key repeatedly as you power up.
  • This will bring up a menu, select Safe Mode and press enter. Log on as a user with administrator priviledges.
  • Double click on VirtumundoBeGone to launch it, and follow any instructions it gives.
  • Reboot into Normal Mode, and send me a new HJT log please, along with the VBG.txt file, which should be found on your desktop.
Whenever I boot into safe mode and log in (as administrator) the desktop is blank (black screen). The only thing that apprears is "safe mode" in all four corners and the XP build on the very top of the screen. No icons or any other part of the desktop is present. So, I can't click on the VBG file and launch it since its not there. It is there though when I boot in normal mode (as are all of the other desktop icons). Should I launch the VBG file in normal mode?
Hi brasskey,

Start into Safe Mode as before, when you get the black screen do the following.
  • Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up Windows Task Manager.
  • Click on the Applications tab.
  • Click New Task.
  • Type Explorer.exe in the Open box, click OK.
This should open Windows Explorer, and you can navigate to your desktop, where you will find VirtumonduBegone. Run it please.

To exit out of Safe Mode
  • Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del
  • Click on the Shutdown tab.
  • Click on Restart.
Now post me the logs asked for in my last post please.

If that doesn't work, go ahead and run VirtumundoBegone in Normal Mode.
That didn't work. I was able to enter explorer.exe in the task manager, but after doing that, the desktop appeared in the applications tab for about a second then disappeared. The screen stayed black the whole time. Here's my new logs:

Hi brasskey, one more try.

Download this file - combofix.exe

and save it to your desktop.

go to start –> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /v vtsrq

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

In your next post, please include
  • new hijackthis log
  • combofix log

Ewido will save a report in the following location C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\Reports

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings.
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK.
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post please, along with the Ewido report and a new HJT log. You'll need more than one post to get them all in.
Everything seems to work fine except for the Kaspersky Online Scanner intructions. I clicked on the link provided in your post above and when you said click on "Kaspersky Online Scanner", I assume you mean the top left box that says, "Kaspersky File Scanner". When I clicked on the Kaspersky File Scanner, I wasn't prompted to install an ActiveX component. It brought me to a window which wants me to upload files individually to scan (here's the link: http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus). I assume this is not the right window as you have instructions for a program to launch and download. So, that being said, I don't have a log file for this program.

Below is the ewido report and the next post is the HJT report.
