Welcome to the forum, sorry for the delay in responding. Been quite busy around here.

Download and install the 30 day trial of Ewido Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.

* Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
* Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
* On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
* Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
* Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
* Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine
* Under Reports
* Select Automatically generate report after every scan
* Un-Select Only if threats were found
* Close Ewido Anti-Spyware <– Do not run the scan yet.

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these entries and click on Fix Checked

Boot your computer into Safemode

* Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
* Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the Enter on your Keyboard

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:

* Lauch Ewido-Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
* Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
* Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
* Once the scan is complete do the following:
* If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
* Next select the Reports icon at the top.
* Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
*** make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
* Close Ewido and reboot normally, and post the Ewido log and a new HJT log please.
Ken,

Below you will find the the two logs requested above, HJT(after quarinting the problem files found by Ewido) and the actual log from Ewido with problem files in it.

Short term I assume you will tell me what to do; its long term that has me concerned. This new enhancement to McAfee's Security Center reguarding firewall, virus and malware protection in a word sucks. I ran their virus scan, which includes a malware protector , to the point that they tell you to get rid of all other malware software cause it is incompatible with their product, and this is the result. Their product is supposed to prevent what you see below from happening by catching it and deleting it as you surf or at least notifying you and then giving you their recommendation and the option to take action. It missed all of the below even after I ran their viruscan cause I could tell the system was slowing down. We still haven't addressed the loooooong time it takes for this operating system to boot up now with all the garbage that drags along at startup. At the very least McAfee's system is a resourse hog and still doesnt do the job.

Appreciate your interest in my problem very much!

adella817,

I have never been a big fan of the Security Suites, although some are great programs, they use a vast amount of resources and can bog you down. My self, I just use the stand alone version of Norton Anti Virus and the Free Zone Alarm firewall, been using them for years with no problem. Sometimes if those suites are not installed correctly they can cause some havic on your system.

The jury is out on trojan small , it could be a false positive. Download and install both these free programs that are must haves, Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal, they use no system resouces. Run the scans on them both , I dont need to see any logs. Set them up this way.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4

* If you have the older version 1.3, remove it via ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS in the Control Panel.

Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Add-Remove Programs scroll to that program and click on Remove.

* During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
* Go to Mode and click on Advanced Mode
* Then to Updates Search for Updates
* If you get a Bad Checksum Error, just choose a different download location.
* Then to Settings/ File Sets and take the checkmark out of Usage Tracks
* Then to Tools/ Hosts Files click on Add Spybot S&D Hosts Files.
* Then to Tools/ IE Tweeks and put a checkmark in Lock the Hosts Files
* Then to Immunize. Up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on Immunize.
* Then to Search and Destroy/ Check for Problems
* Let it scan your system
* Then to Fix Problems and fix all it finds.

RE-BOOT your computer.

Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06

AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL 1.06

If you have an older version of Ad-Aware, no need to uninstall it, it will prompt you to uninstall it during
the set up process

* During installation, follow all the defaults.
* Start the program and Check for Updates
* Choose Perform a Full System Scan
* Take the checkmark out of Search for Negligable Files
* Run the scan
* When it is done, Right Click on One of the Entries/ Select All/ Next and let it remove all that if finds.

Then run this system cleaner to get clean out all the nooks and crannies.

This will by default install the Yahoo Toolbar, you can remove it via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel if you wish.
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
Tutorial for CCleaner

Then post a new HJT log and I want to look at what programs you have starting up, there may be a few that we can disable from starting when windows starts and that may help you some.
Ken, Two problems with your recommendation relative to my system. First if you would look at the log for ewido it says that the contaminated files have been quaranteed why dont we just remove them with ewido. Second been with Mcafee for over 4years and this is the first problem I have had with them; their malware software is not compatible with adaware I had to uninstall adaware from my system to get the latest update to their viruscan/malware program. So using adaware and spybot which I also had wont work. So for now lets follow through with this thread using ewido, which as i understand it will stay on my system in its full form for a month and then remain in an abbreviated form. Mcafee doesnt seem to know about this system so my guess is they havent made their system incompatible with it yet. Plus i will be going to mcafee and trying to work out the issues. Lets also see if there is anything that I can get rid of per your suggestion at startup time. Thanks again…
adella817,

Ewido is yours to keep after the 30 day evaluation, you can check for updates, run the scans and remove what it finds, you will just lose the background guard feature.

It has 3 options when you scan, do nothing, remove or quarantine, the reason we suggest quarantine is that sometimes legitimate files can be deleted. Case in Point, The below file for Yahoo toolbar was removed. So I would open Ewido , go into the Quarantine folder and restore that entry, then I would remove all the rest.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ycomp5_0_2_7.dll -> Adware.Yahoo : Cleaned with backup (quarantined).

All systems are different and you know yours better than I do, if you install a program ( even the ones we recommend ) and you feel its giving you a problem, than uninstall it. I have Spybot and Ad-Aware on about 85 computers where I work along with Spysweeper, Norton AV and Ewido and have not seen any problems as of yet.

I would also like you to run part 1 of this scan, just want to make sure everything is gone, your Ewido log had some entries for an infection called Smitfraud.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Do not run Option #2 yet, it will damage your system if your not infected.

Hello Again,

Go ahead and run Option 2 for Smitfraud.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Let me see this report and a new HJT log please.

Ken/Steve
still taking about 90 seconds to startup the system and using tons of Pf and processing resourses to do it.

You will notice that there is no mention of wininet.dll being checked is that a concern?

but how does she look outside of that.
adella817, :D

Your Smitfraud infection is gone, :thumbup: wininet.dll was not infected so your ok.

I would like you to open HJT Scan Only and besides the ones I am listing, look through all your 016 entries and remove the ones you are not using. You can always restore any that you want by opening HJT> View the List of Backups and restore any you wish. All the 016s will come back the next time you visit the site.

This may not be needed

You really dont have a lot of programs running at startup, most of the logs I look at have over a dozen or so 04 entries.

You can run this quick scan to see if something is hidding that we cant see.

Please download F-Secure BlackLight
  • Save BlackLight to your desktop.

adella817, :D

Your log looks ok :thumbup: , I see no malware at all on it. Blacklight also came up clean. I am not to familiar with Mcafee, but let me tell ya, you have a bunch of Mcafee processes running . I would suggest posting in there forum, maybe showing them your HJT log and maybe some of those processes are not needed. ???

Sorry I cant help you any further as this forum is for malware removal.

Ken :D
you are a peach man…….thanks for your help and yes mcafee's new viruscan11 seems to be a hog. Picked up all those malware and virus's you saw after I installed the new security center that included virus 11(lol). MY prefetch, which is a 256mb ram, utilization went from an average usage, when booting up, from 190mb to something north of 350 so you can see that is part of the problem. Lots of what we used to call paging and thrashing to process. Now the problem is for me I dont know if its Mcafee or something else. Appreciate your help take good care
adella817, If you purchased Mcafee and have the disk, why dont you try uninstalling the entire program and see if thats your problem. If not you can always reinstall it, if it is, then you will know for sure. Ken :D
Here are some free programs and tips for keeping your system up to date, and to help keep all the riff raff out of your system.

Be sure to follow the instructions for System Restore because everything we removed is backed up in that program and if you ever use it to revert your system to an earlier date, you can reinfect your self all over again.

Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < When it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Now that your clean, we need to erase all possible older infected files that may still be lurking on your system.
* Clean out your TEMP FILES
* This procedure should be run from SAFEMODE for better results.

To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

* Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this Computer Local Settings
and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder and the Temporary Internet Files Folder <–Just the contents, not the folder itself.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <– But not the temp folder itself.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder. <–But not the Prefetch folder itself.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.

* Here are Free Anti-Virus Programs if you need one. Just install one because with AV software…MORE IS NOT BETTER.

AVG Free Edition
AntVir Personal Edition

* Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

* Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

* Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and
give you the option to deny the change.

* IE- Spyad IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains
in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed,
although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

* Firefox Browser
It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use
them both. When it asks you if you want it to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. After you use this
for awhile, you will want to make it your default.

* Thunderbird Mail There companion mail program was highly favored in PCWorld Magazine,
this has a good spam filter and is more secure than Outlook Express.

* Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't
access the internet without it.

* WINDOWS UPDATES - Enable Automatic Updates
Right click on MY COMPUTER/Click on PROPERTIES/ AUTOMATIC UPDATES and put a mark in the radio button
DOWNLOAD UPDATES FOR ME BUT LET ME CHOOSE WHEN TO INSTALL THEM.

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you.
