Newbie needing help !

firstly please excuse any mistakes as this is my first post.
secondly thanks for taking the time to read this.
ok here goes.
My pc keeps locking up I have to activate task manager then shut it down to free the screen.
I keep getting slung off of internet explorer.
My pc is unusually slow.

My name is Vino Rosso - if it helps, you can call me Vino for short. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a little time to research and, while I complete my training, all my recommended fixes will be checked by an expert.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

To clean up your PC will probably take a few posts so please be patient.

OK, let's get started!

1 - HaxFix
Please download HaxFix.exe to your Desktop from >here<.
Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
Click "Next" then "Install"
When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
Click "Finish"

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open… press any key to continue
The following options are now displayed:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix

Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into your reply to this thread.

Remember, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.

We'll move on to part 2 of the HaxFix.

1 - HaxFix
Using Windows Explorer, open C;\Program Files\haxfix and double click on fix.bat (or double click on fix.bat desktop icon)
Now close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot
Select option 2 - Run auto fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter
If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.

Close all open windows except the red dos window from haxfix and then press Enter
The computer will reboot
After reboot a logfile will open > (c:\haxfix.txt)
Please post the contents of that logfile along with a new HijackThis log

2 - Status Check
With your next reply, please post:
- the HaxFix #2 log
- a new HJT log

Remember, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.

Thanks for posting the HaxFix and new HJT log. Looks like HaxFix did its job.

Let's continue…

1 - WareOut Fix
Please download to your Desktop FixWareout from >here< or >here<

Double-click Fixwareout.exe to run the program.
Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Can you please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt


2 - Network Settings
Note: This step (2 - Network Settings) is only required if you are experiencing problems connecting to the internet. If you are not having problems, move on to the next step.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel (Start > Control Panel), if you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
Right-click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties.
Click the Networking tab.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Hi jonregester and welcome back to the TomCoyote forums.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT not there

We need to deal with this error then re-do the WareOut Fix.

1 - Autoexec.nt Error
If your operating system is Windows XP Professional click on this link >HERE<

If your operating system is Windows XP Home click on this link >HERE<

Double-click on the exe file you download and this will replace any necessary files.

2 - WareOut Fix
Use Windows Explorer to find and double-click on C:\fixwareout\fix-it.bat
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Can you please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

3 - Network Settings
Note: This step (2 - Network Settings) is only required if you are experiencing problems connecting to the internet. If you are not having any problems, move on to the next step.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel (Start > Control Panel), if you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
Right-click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties.
Click the Networking tab.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Thanks for posting the output log and the new HJT log. Let's move on to the next step…

1 - Program Download
Please download to your Desktop ATF Cleaner by Atribune from >here<. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only. It does not require any installation and uses minimal system resources. It is set up to clean IE, FireFox and Opera, and detects the browsers you have and greys out the other(s).
We will use this program later.

2 - Remove Java
Go to Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs
Search for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment…. )
(It should have this icon next to it: [external image: Posted Image])
Click that entry and then click on the Change/Remove button and follow the instructions to remove Java

3 - Run HJT Scan
Run a scan with HijackThis and tick the following entries, if present:

Close all windows except HijackThis
Select Fix Checked in HijackThis.

4 - Delete Temporary Files
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Recommend UNCHECKING COOKIES if you rely on system remembered passwords.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT FIREFOX SAVED PASSWORDS
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT COOKIES AND SAVED PASSWORDS
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your cookies and saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Empty the Recycle Bin and re-start your PC in Normal mode

5 - Network Settings
Note: This step (5 - Network Settings) is only required if you are experiencing problems connecting to the internet. If you are not having any problems, move on to the next step.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel (Start > Control Panel), if you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
Right-click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties.
Click the Networking tab.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot your PC if asked.
Now click on Start > Run and type cmd and click on OK
Type ipconfig /flushdns (note the space after ipconfig and before the /)
Press Enter, type exit at the command prompt, then press enter
The command window will close.

6 - Update Java
Download and install the newest version of Java from >here<

7 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide a new HijackThis log and let me know how your PC is behaving.

Remember, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.
