Hello,
Added memory last month from 128MB to 512MB on my old HP. May have changed some settings, which I had no business doing with my limited knowlege. System sometimes freezes and takes an inordinate amount of time for all progams to respond, including task manager and shutdown. Having trouble intermitently with ISP not responding where I had no trouble previously. Sometimes things are fine, other times not. Hit and miss. I manually override cookies, use AVG free, AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, Zone Alarm free, FireFox, Netscape Connect(Walmart version), and now HiJackThis. I don't think it's a virus or anything like that, but maybe set something up to run that I shoudn't have. Thanks, ostinato. New scan results…

Have you tried removing the memory stick you added and see how the PC works? When you do something like add memory and have those types of problems, it usually means the two modules don't work together.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't removed the memory sticks. They were both ordered and installed at the same time, from the same seller. I removed the original 128MB stick. Both 256's installed are HP brand, and were new. Should I try removing one of them to see how it performs? If so, which one? Take them both out and replace with original? I'm assuming there weren't any obvious errors in the baseline scan? Thanks again, Ostinato :wavey: :wavey:

Take them both out and replace with original?

That's what I'd do.

I'm assuming there weren't any obvious errors in the baseline scan?

Log looks good.
Hi and thanks, Okay, say I take the two 256MB out, put the original 128MB in, and it operates more consistently, did I buy bad sticks, or will I be stuck in 128MB land? Thanks again, osti

Hi and thanks,

Could be a number of things.
1. Are there jumpers/switches that need changed when using 256 sticks
2. Does 256 sticks work with your mother board
3. Are the 256 sticks compatible with your system
4. One or both 26 sticks bad

You need to research your system to find the answers to 1,2 and 3.
