shelf life, Thanks for the help you've been giving me, i apprieciate it. Anyhow, i did what you said and had the same results. it goes the motions of entering Safe Mode. Eventually the screen goes black and it say's Safe Mode in all four corners of the monitor with the windows info. across the top. The arrow appears in the middle of the screen then it just sits there and nothing happens. I've left it like that over night and nothing changed. I know you don't think the wireless problem is related to this problem but it seems that both problems started happening at the same time. One more bit of information. i recently replaced my video card and increased my RAM. Had no problems installing either one and the computer was running fine. Don't now if either one of these could contribute to my problems but just thought i'd let you know. Also, the computer with the problem belongs to my 13 year old daughter who thinks the world is coming to an end without having the internet. So if there's any way to work on both problems together that would save me from my daughter. Thanks, Deadshort
hi deadshort,

download atf cleaner and use it ocassionaly, good for cleaning stuff out:

http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/

run ewido once and save the log file it generates. post the ewido log in your next reply. you can edit out the cookies.

download and run Winsock fix on the computer in question:

http://www.webattack.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

dont think the added RAM or video card had anything to do with the problem.

let me see if i can find anything out about the safe mode problem, although it looks like we wont be needing it now, that last hjt log looks ok.
i can understand your daughters feelings, i start to feel lost when my goes out for any length of time.

shelf life, hello, hope everythings well. i tried all the things you suggested in your last reply to me. i also ran ewido, like you asked and it found no problems. i sill have the same problems i started with, but at least my daughters computer is cleaner. Any ideas what i should do next? Thanks, deadshort
hi deadshort, ewido came up clean and the log dosnt look bad at all. did you try running the winsock fix. so the computer functions ok other than no internet connection and no desktop in safe mode? shelf life
shelf life, I'm not sure what i did but after rebooting everything seems to be fine. Got the internet back and was able to enter safe mode and run all the utility programs again. Pretty strange huh. Anyway thanks for all your help and fast response to my posts. You have been a great help. Thanks again, deadshort
