Dear Susan It would seem that the HijackThis shield takes over from Home Page Shield as this does not appear, where HijackThis sheild does. Anyway…I have had the same problem again on my second reboot but now all seems to be ok. I have kept SpySweeper not opening on startup and opening it manually, I wonder if this could be the problem…I'll keep you informed as to how things go… Kindest regards .. Alan
Susan Evidently Java 5 update 6 is the latest software. The problem has now re-occurred. I ran HijackThis and the files did not show up however I have made a second run and they have shown. I have fixed these and will see what happens when I reboot.
Hi Alan01,

I am not losing my mind. Sun moved the update and I wanted to know why before I replied.
Sun recommends this update and says "there are absolutely no issues" with it.
Here is the link for the page that has the 5.0 Update 7
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Browse down to this.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 7 and install it.

Please post (reply) another hijackthis log and let me know if the entries reoccurred.
Hi again Susan….. I think I may have found the problem, after installing Java 5 -7 I rebooted and all was fine. I rebooted again and still fine but then :weee: I activated spySweeper and rebooted with it still activated…when I rebooted the problem was there but not showing on the Hijack This log. i will now reboot again with SpySweeper turned off and let you know the results. if you remember when i ran registry scan the 9 items showed up in the registry … do you think I should delete thes from the registry… Kindest regards ….Alan…….
Welllllllllll ………….rebooted with SpySweeper inactivated and all was fine…. What now lol………

Hi alan01,

Are those entries gone for good? I just see a minor item to clean-up in the log.

Disable SpySweeper:
You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.
  • Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options>Uncheck "load at windows startup"
  • Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
  • Uncheck" home page shield".
  • Uncheck ''automatically restore default without notification".
Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O16 - DPF: {4B0999FD-6937-11D5-8FEC-00606779369C} (NetConf) -
Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpySweeper again.

Post (reply) with a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.
Hi Susan….

With SpySweeper enabled I get the same problem and now the computer has started hanging on startup.

Hello Alan01,
Thanks for the logs. I see a couple of entries in the hijackthis log which look suspicious. I think they may be leftover from past and are harmless but I would like to see scan please.
Also if I should ask you to temporarily uninstall SpySweeper (later—not now!), do you have the necessary information to reinstall it? If you downloaded it, you may need license key, customer number, etc.?

Please run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your reply.
Hi Susan… Yes I have Spy Sweeper key Code I have run Kaspersky before and when I go to the website I only get the option to run file Scanner
Yes, Kapersky is a scanner. I notice you have anti-virus, SpySweeper, ewido so I was wanting to see the results from a scan, just for information. Are you not able to run a scan?
