Please help, Everythime I open IE 6 I get alerts saying that I don't have a valid antiVirus program.
I am running Avast and google and IE popup blockers and last week I managed to get rid of a couple of
WIN32 virus and I think I still have some, Below is what I came up with Hijackthis log.
I also ran http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ online virus scan and http://www.pandasoftware.com/
aNY Feed back would be great, thank you, RC dated July 20th 2006

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Now, please go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit < Enter > (or click OK)

In the Name column look for:

Windows Log

< Double-click > it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvcd.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\documents and settings\rc\local settings\application data\2796c5df.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\2796c5df.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\nvsvcd.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\winaff32.dll <— file

c:\windows\system\smss.exe <— file

EXTREME WARNING!!!!

Delete this smss.exe in this folder only!!!

c:\windows\system\smss.exe

The one in the system32 folder is the "legitimate" one.

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)

Here is the 2nd copy, Heads up I removed Avast antiVirus and went with SBC's AntiVirus which found a Win32/Beenut!generic virus.
I hope this thing works

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A4F94C0C-54A7-4DB1-9AF3-B22E63D00309} - C:\WINDOWS\g16905281.dll

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
