Not only has my internet connection slowed to a crawl, especially with Internet Explorer, but I think that somehow my windows key was corrupted because I am getting messages that my copy is pirated when it wasn't. This has prevented me from getting windows updates- I have already asked Microsoft for help with this. Recently, my mouse cursor has started moving "on its own" even when I am trying to move it in another direction. Any help to these vexing problems will be most greatly appreciated. I posted my log results above.
Please reply soon! Internet explorer does not work at all anymore! It is impossible to open any page, as my bandwidth seems to be sucked up by some other process. Firefox is somewhat better, but not much. Meanwhile the wild movements of the mouse cursor (optical and mechincal- I've switched off to see if it makes a difference) have gotten worse, even over the past 24 hours. Much thanks to anybody with any suggestions!
cysticerci, :D

Welcome to the forum, sorry for the delay in responding. What happens is we search for logs with zero replies and by you reponding to yourself, you took yourself out of that catagory.

Just looking at your log, I dont see anything bad on it that would be causing your slowdown. You do have two anti viruses running at the same time that could be causing you problems. You should only have one program running so its your call but you need to go to the Add -Remove programs in the Control Panel and remove one.

As Far as your illegal windows notification, its most likely caused by downloading and installing the Windows Genuine Advantage tool, this has caused problems on some systems but not all of them. You need to call Microsoft and tell them this and they can run you through a fix.

DO THIS FIRST
Your HIJACKTHIS program is current, but it is very important that it resides in its own folder.
We will use Hijackthis (HJT) to make changes to your system and HJT will make backups of those changes,
If HJT is not in its own folder, those backups could be lost.

Easy to fix,
* just go to My Computer > YOUR C:\ DRIVE > Program Files and create a new folder and name it Hijackthis .
* Now scroll to where you have HJT currently, right click on the HJT icon and select CUT .
* Now open the new folder you just created and right click within that folder and select PASTE .
* Now HJT should reside in C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe

Please do not proceed until you have moved HJT

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot as to not interfere with the fix.
Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

You have Ewido Installed, although its a great program, It is also a resourse hog, lets set it up this way and run a scan, paste the report along with a new HJT log and then uninstall the program.

* Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
* Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
* On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
* Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
* Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
* Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine
* Under Reports
* Select Automatically generate report after every scan
* Un-Select Only if threats were found
* Close Ewido Anti-Spyware <– Do not run the scan yet.

Boot your computer into Safemode

* Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
* Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the Enter on your Keyboard

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:

* Lauch Ewido-Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
* Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
* Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
* Once the scan is complete do the following:
* If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
* Next select the Reports icon at the top.
* Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
*** make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
* Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the Ewido report scan.
Hi, I have been trying over the past few days to follow your instructions, but Ewido will not update for failure to contact the update server. I am not sure why, as other programs, including Firefox- which I am using to write this post, are able to update and reach the internet without difficulty. Please advise as per the next step. Tea Timer was disabled and Hijackthis was moved to its own Program Files subfolder. Thanks again
cysticerci,

* Make sure you remove one anti virus program.

* Open up Spybot Search and Destroy and go to Mode. Advanced Mode> Tools > Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer.

* Open up Zone Alarm and go to the Firewall Zone > Main and turn off the setting for both the Internet and Trusted Zones ( Dont forget to reset them back when your done.

* Then go to Program Control and make sure Ewido has green checkmarks in Internet and Trusted.

Then give Ewido another try.

Ken :D
It looks like you have Mcafee Security Suite which includes a firewall, so I would suggest you uninstall the AVG Free Anti Virus along with Zone Alarm. They both can be uninstalled via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Go to Start> Control Panel > Add-Remove Programs and make sure that your in the top pane that says Change or Remove Programs. It will be in alphabetical order, just scroll down to them and uninstall them.

Ken :D
I am very sorry, but I do not remember installing Zone Alarm on my system. Do you see anything on the log that suggests that it is running? It is not available to uninstall using windows, so I am not sure where you are getting this from. Thanks again for your help.
Thanks, removing WinPatrol worked. Unfortunetely, the results of the Ewido scan and the applied corrections leave me a bit bewildered as to what is still going on undetected. Here is the report: + Scan result: C:\Documents and Settings\Marci\Cookies\marci@2o7[1].txt -> TrackingCookie.2o7 : Cleaned with backup (quarantined). C:\Documents and Settings\Marci\Cookies\marci@msnportal.112.2o7[1].txt -> TrackingCookie.2o7 : Cleaned with backup (quarantined). C:\Documents and Settings\Marci\Cookies\marci@com[1].txt -> TrackingCookie.Com : Cleaned with backup (quarantined). C:\Documents and Settings\Marci\Cookies\marci@edge.ru4[1].txt -> TrackingCookie.Ru4 : Cleaned with backup (quarantined). ::Report end Thanks again for all of your help
All Ewido found were cookies, no bad files.

Lets run a quick program to see if anything is installed that we can not see.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

also post a new hiajckthis log
Blacklight log:

Does that help explain anything more?

Thanks again so much for your continued help. I hope that this process is not frustrating you as much as it is frustrating me.
Blacklight showed nothing, your log looks ok, and you still have two anti virus programs running at the same time. The security suites are good programs but tend to use a lot of system resources. I would keep that and uninstall AVG free and see what happens.
