Thanks for sending your information. We are sorry for the delay in responding. The volunteers here are swamped and unfortunately not all logs get answered as quickly as we'd like.

If you still need help with your problem, Open the HijackThis Folder. Find the file HijackThis.exe, Right Click on the file and Select Rename. Rename Hijackthis.exe to HJT.exe.

Then, please run Hijack This ( HJT.exe) again. Scan and copy the log, then post it here, in this topic.

We need to see the entire logfile, with no revisions. If anything is disabled using MSCONFIG, please enable all, before scanning with Hijack This.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.

Hi mmyers:

Yes, you did fine. We have a varmint that has hidden itself, by removing some of the entries in your Hijack This log. We had to rename Hijack This, in order to reveal those hidden entries. In this instance possibly 2 varmints that had used that technique. The second, we will have to check to be sure it is not removed by this procedure. There are also others that have invaded your PC and are causing you problems. We will get as many as possible with this procedure and the rest in follow up posts.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please read this text carefully, so you will know what to expect, then proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.

  • Turn your computer back on.

    Next:
Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

    C:\WINDOWS\g26216984.dll

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljge.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt1.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\370a3a3a.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhdn32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnqguh.dll

    C:\Program Files\TBONBin\tbon.exe /r

    C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Myers\Local Settings\Application Data\370a3a3a.exe

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

    Next:

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc…processutil.htm

Caution: Running SmitfraudFix in option #2 on an uninfected machine will remove your desktop background.

Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the contents of SmitfraudFix and C:\vundofix.txt.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
I really appreciate the ideas, but, unfortunately I can't launch IE to access the internet from my computer due to these problems, I am at my in-laws. Can I download the Vundo file to a disk and launch it on my computer or do you have any other suggestion? Again, thanks for your time!!! Mike
Hi mmyers:
Sorry your problem has got worse.

Lets try this. Print this post and my previous post and take them both back to your PC
Also, download both VundoFix and SmitfraudFix now and copy them to a disk, then download both to your PC.

Run VundoFix and let it finish. Be sure to save the log, to post here.

This is where the directions will differ from my previous post.

Next:
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Then please reboot into Normal Windows, if the tool has not aready done so.

Then, run Hijack This and fix the entries and delete the files as shown in my previous post.

Then, please post the contents of the SmitfraudFix log located at C:\rapport.txt and the log from VundoFix into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
OK, here goes, I was able to log onto IE through the Microsoft security page so I didn't need the last post instructions, I used the previous instructions. It went OK but in safe mode it stayed at the black screen with the words "safe mode" in the bottom two corners so I opened the task manager and used a program called PowerDesk to delete the files you suggested as I could not open Window explorer! The first file O2 - BHO: (NO NAME) - {19727FC9……} was not there. The file C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MLJGE.DLL wouldn't let me delete say it was in use. The file C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINHDN32.DLL wouldn't let me delete saying access denied. Here is the HJT log followed by the SmitfraudFix and the Vundofix logs. Thanks again for your patience and help!!!
Mike

Done!
Hi mmyers:

Sorry for all the difficulties. Good work, getting it done. Hope this can provide some relief.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Please download VirtumundoBeGone:
http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe
* Save it to the Desktop
* Close all running programs (including your Internet Browser)
* Double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe on the Desktop
* Follow the directions as indicated
This program may generate a "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" which is an expected/necessary part of the process.
Do not be concerned.
Just reboot if your system "jams".
To confirm successful deletion, and determine if there are any additional problems, please post the VirtumundoBeGone log VBG.txt with your next post . It is found on the Desktop.

Next:
Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Then please reboot into Normal Windows.

Next:

Please use the following links to run two, or more of these online Virus Scanners and let them fix whatever they find.

Please Note: Try bitdefender, as I saw it remove one of your Viruses on another users machine. Trend Micro would be a second option to try.

When using Trend Micro, be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.
TrendMicro HouseCall
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/news.html?id=146100010
Bitdefender and let it delete everything it finds.
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Note any thing that can't be fixed and reboot when finished.

C:\WINDOWS\g998187.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhdn32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljge.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\370a3a3a.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Myers\Local Settings\Application Data\370a3a3a.exe

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

If you were unable to delete any of the files, then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.

Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the VirtumundoBeGone log VBG.txt and the contents of the SmitfraudFix log located at C:\rapport.txt.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
WOW, this feels like college homework! OK, using HJT, 3 entries weren't there: O2 - BHO: (no name) - {873eb32d…,O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F19DF3E1…, and O20 - Winlogon Notify: mljge… I couln't locate 3 files: C:\WINDOWS\g998187.dll, C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixt1.dll, and C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljge.dll. I used killbox to delete C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhdn32.dll and the other two were deleted with no problems.
I used TrendMicro, Kaspersky, and Bitdefender and deleted too many viruses, etc. to remember but none of them allowed me to create a log of the ones left except one: trojan_agent.djd.

Here are the logs and thanks again for you patience and time!!

Hi mmyers:

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Good work on those removals.
Those files you could not find, were likely removed by the programs we ran.

Running those online scanners seems to have been a good choice. It's good practice to run them once a month or so, or when you feel there could be a problem. Also, there is a link below to a new Ewido online scanner, for Trojans, Malware, etc. that makes using it much easier. Would be good practice to run it too, when you run the online Virus scanners.

Looks like there is still some trojan activity, so lets run a couple of Programs and see if we can be rid of them.

Please download CWShredder, from one of the following sites.
http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/onl…/cwshredder.exe
http://www.majorgeeks.com/CWShredder_d3019.html
http://intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

First, be sure to update CWShredder.
Then close every window, disconnect from Internet and doubleclick the CWShredder icon on your Desktop.
Click Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Then, please reboot.

Next:

Run ewido anti-spyware's online malware scan and perform a full system scan (works only with MS Internet Explorer)
  • Install the ActiveX control when prompted
  • You will see a message that says "Please wait while the signature database is being downloaded…"
  • When the scan is ready to start, you will see a list of options:
    • Cookies
    • Registry
    • Memory
    • A list of your drives
Leave all the options checked, and click "Start Scan"
When the scan finishes, if any infections are found, select "Remove Infections", and click OK in the window that pops up.

Next, select "Save Report", and save the log to a convenient location (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
I suggest saving the report to your desktop.

Close ewido, and post the log in your next reply.

    Next:

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://admin.isp.netscape.com/session/sess…gin/ftl-005.php

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winhdn32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhdn32.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhdn32.dll

Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the Ewido online scan report.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
I think we're getting close to the end? All of the registry entries were there and I deleted all the files except: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhdn32.dll and when I tried Killbox it said it had been deleted by an external process.
I had lots of trouble with the Ewido scanner, when it did it's first scan it found tons of stuff but when I clicked remove them, it gave me no option to save a log anywhere. When I went back into it the scan would not load so I deleted all the ewido files went back in and it found a few more problems but when I chose remove, there was still no option to save anything. When I go into it now, it again will not load but I can say it found alot of medium risk programs and some high risk trojans and hopefully removed them. Here is the HJT log and thanks again!!

Hi mmyers:

It looks like the Ewido online scanner did quite a lot of good work, then developed a glitch. Not sure if that is pemanant, or it will recover in the future. Below is a link for an Ewido onboard scanner that should produce a log, which will tell us more. I'm not convinced that all the Trojan activity has been removed, though your Hijack This logfile does look clean.

Also, lets clear your System Restore before running Ewido, so it does not report all those Trojans etc. that have been removed and add them to the Ewido log. I'm also going to suggest a few programs to download that will provide your PC with a lot of protection on the Internet and will help prevent this from happening again.
Once those programs are installed, please run The Ewido Onboard Scan and post the log here, along with a fresh Hijack This logfile and we will see if anything remains to be done.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

    * Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
    Click the "Delete Cookies" button
Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

    * Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):

    Go to Tools > Options.
Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
    * Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
    Press OK to remove them.

If you are not using an alternate browser to Internet Explorer, I suggest trying the Firefox browser. It is much safer than IE. Be sure to have a look at the Extensions available for it and get those you need, or want.
Please use the following link to download the Firefox browser.
    http://www.mozilla.org/

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
    http://castlecops.com/postlite7736-.html
So how did I get infected in the first place?

    Next:
Please run Ad-Aware SE and let it remove anything it asks about.

Here is a link to Ewidos onboard Anti-Malware Scanner I mentioned earlier.

Please Note: This is a new version of Ewido Anti-Malware. It has a new set of setup and running instructions. Please delete any other versions.

Download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
    • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
      • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
    • Under "Reports"
      • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
      • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
    1. Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
    2. IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
    3. Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    4. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    5. ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
    6. Once the scan is complete do the following:
    7. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    8. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    9. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important). I suggest saving it to your desktop.

    10. Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode. Then please post the results of the ewido report scan, into this topic, along with a fresh Hijack This log.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
I installed the Spyware Blaster, AdAware and Ewido programs. The Ewido, as you'll see in the log, removed alot of adwarebut it looked like it had trouble removing the Adware.Altnet program. Do I leave the Quarantined files alone or should I choose the delete option? Also, how do I remove programs from automatically starting up and showing up in the taskbar in the lower right corner, I have alot now with these added programs and would like to clean them up.
OK, here are the logs. Again, thanks for your time!!

Hi mmyers:

It's good to have shortcuts for those programs on your desktop, to make them easier to remember to update, but they are not needed on your taskbar.
This could be an option when downloading/installing the programs, I don't recall.

Right click on those in your taskbar and see if there is an option to remove it from there. Another option would be to look in Task Manager, select those you do not want on startup and End Process on them. Or, the program(s) could be deleted, then downloaded again and be selective about how they are allowed to install themselves.
Which of those programs I recommended are in your taskbar ?

Now that you have Ad-Aware SE, run the program and let it remove anything it asks about. Look for Altnet and see if it is listed to be removed.

Those Quarantined items in Ewido can be deleted. The program itself can also be Uninstalled/Removed when we are finished, if you wish. It is a 30 day trial.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Please give special notice to directions in RED

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [370a3a3a.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\370a3a3a.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [370a3a3a.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Myers\Local Settings\Application Data\370a3a3a.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic.

Please advise if any problems remain.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
I think that may have done it! I ran AdAware and it found the Adware.Altnet and deleted it, I thought. I rebooted and ran AdAware again and it again found the same program and deleted! However, when I ran HJT both registry entries were gone and so were the files you wanted deleted. Was the 370a3a3a entries the AdWare.Altnet program? If so, now that it is off, the Spyware Blaster and Ewido should keep it from re-installing, correct? Lastly, any recommendations for an anti-virus program, free or otherwise, that is any good?
Here is the HJT log and also a report from the AdAware re: the Adware.Altnet program, if you need it. Once again, thanks for the help, and I will definitely donate to this site as you have been a great help and, undoubtedly, saved me a good deal of cash!! Thanks again!! Any other instructions or recommendations, let me know.
