Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. I wish to apologize for the wait, the logs are many and the volunteers are few. I have had a look at your HJT log and I have seen worse. You have mostly adware though some of it is nasty. You do have a trojan or two like this one which may be hard to get rid of:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyc…=TROJ_CRYPTER.A

If you have not received any help elsewhere and still wish to proceed with this cleanup, I suggest you keep the computer offline as much as possible until we have it clean and some new free protection in place. Cleanup will be some work. If this sounds like something you want to do, I would like to start like this.

Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

Start with this junk: C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe
see this >>> http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-4185.html
Try the uninstall instructions in this link:
http://webhancer.com/support/index.asp?s=30

Open Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and look over that list. Uninstall anything you know should not be there. If you are unsure, let me know and I will look.

Once you have completed these instructions post a new HJT log and I will respond as soon as possible after that.

Thanks…pskelley

sorry, forgot to say, don't really recognise anything. fairly clueless, so if you could have a look for anything suspicious. thanks!
Webhancer is still in the HJT log? Did you have any problem with the uninstall information? Did you see it in Add Remove programs?

I ran into a issue and need your help to proceed. There items:
C:\Program Files\MEDION Wireless Combo Set\MouseDrv.exe
C:\Program Files\MEDION Wireless Combo Set\PS2USBKbdDrv.exe
I need to know if this is a valid program you installed. When I search the .exe I am getting this:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/m…v.exe-3240.html
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc…=MouseDrv%2Eexe

A search of: MEDION Wireless Combo Set gives me this:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc…eless+Combo+Set

Now understand these hackers can call their junk anything they want but I don't want to remove programs valid and needed for the operation of the computer.

Post to let me know, if you have any doubts, these free onlines scans will provide the information you need:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Thanks
hiya, it really gets my blood up what these people are allowed to do! I can't imagine how mad you get….. I have no idea what these things are. I have a laptop, so can't imagine what I'd need with a wireless keyboard or whatever. The guy i got this off had all sorts of badly-uninstalled junk, the only things I've installed are microsoft office and a star wars game. so, do I just uninstall these in add/remove programmes? and when I went to uninstall webhancer, I got told there was an error, as it had appeared to have already been deleted. Is it hiding elsewhere?
OK, not much use for a wireless mouse or wireless keyboard huh? Here is what I am going to do. Remove what I think but first we will move it to the recycle bin. Let's make sure he has not modified the recycle bin bypassing it. Let's go for it and see what happens.

1) Right-click the Recycle Bin, and then click Properties. Make sure the IS NOT a check in the box "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when delete" I repeat, there must be NO check in that box. Make sure you have at least 5% set for storage. Now files we delete will go there, delete them after a few days. Anything HJT removes it makes backups if we need them.

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…fo/bt_side.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these files or folders.

C:\Program Files\MEDION Wireless Combo Set\ <<< delete the folder

C:\Program Files\TopSearch\ <<< delete the folder

C:\Program Files\webHancer\ <<< delete the folder

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, along with any comments you have. Let me know how you are running.

Also let me look at that uninstall list, like this:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list…" Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Thanks…Phil

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05 <<< out of date, that will get you infected quick, see this information:

when i tried to delete the 'topsearch' file, i got an 'access denied' error message.

Restart the computer in safe mode: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html
Once there, you should be able to delete it.

I would check to make sure that folder is longer on your computer but it is gone from the HJT log this morning. In fact, the HJT log is clean.

and i deleted the java from my uninstall programmes

I believe you will need the program (or the alt from Microsoft) or some programs may not work right.

When looking at the uninstall list, I am looking for problems and bad programs. You should look at each program to decide if it is something you need, then uninstall what you do not.

Here is what I see:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1 (old)
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5 (old)

MEDION Wireless Combo Set (folders gone, might try to uninstall but there may be nothing to uninstall?

TopSearch <<< try to uninstall this. That was what you were looking for when you went there earlier.

I see stuff I would not have, but it may be important to you. Just don't uninstall anything the computer needs to run.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

(not knowing what may be in there, or when the original owner cleaned it last, might not be a bad idea to do this)
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

TopSearch is adware, once it is gone your machine should be working well. Here are some ideas to move beyond malware into other areas of maintenance:

thanks a million, got the topsearch away in the safe mode ok. will follow all the steps to protect myself!! One other small thing, you might be able to help me with? I have been trying to get rid of the 'alien and predator' and 'my dvd' (because a friend installed power dvd instead). I can't get rid of either because I get 'invalid id'. it's just annoying, not a spyware problem so maybe not in the scope of this forum, but if you know how to get rid of it? again, thanks a lot for tidying up my machine! :D
If you will look at your uninstall list, you will see: Aliens versus Predator Gold Edition and MyDVD. It is best to use the uninstaller. :wavey:
