When I open IE my home page is hijacked to "C:\WINDOWS\local.html" that is a Google page. I have used RegScrubXP, Adaware, Norton, CleanUp!, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot Search and Destroy, but they do not detect it.

Any help would be great…

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry about the wait, the logs are many and the volunteers are few :( If you are not receiving help elsewhere and still need help, please post a new HJT log and I will respond with instructions as soon as possible after that. Thanks…pskelley TomCoyote forum Expert Member
Yes, I am still having trouble with the hijacked browser. I also have been dealing with the "Trust Cleaner" and "Trustin Popups"… I think I have removed them but they are sneaky little buggers.

Thanks for your help in advance…

Thanks for a log I can scan, do you know what this is? It was not in the first log!
C:\Program Files\Anonymizer\tss\tss.exe looks like this:
http://www.anonymizer.com/ but when I Google the .exe:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc…amp;q=tss%2Eexe
Where you getting this junk anyway? Let me know if you consider that valid.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with any comments you think will help and tell me how the computer is running now.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03 <<< Java is out of date and you are going to pick up infections like Vundo if you don't keep it current.

Thanks…Phil
I followed the instructions but I'm still hijacked. The system is running normal, still one "Trustin Popups" registery entry and unable to delete it. Some of the entries I selected in Hijack This didn't change after I ran the program.

Thanks for that information, since your own antivirus program offers a solution to your Adware.TrustInPopups, why don't we try that first instead of running scans that may or may not find and remove it. Symantec says it can be removed by following their instructions.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen…stinpopups.html

Make sure you follow the instructions to back up the registry before you proceed:

3. To delete the value from the registry
Important: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified subkeys only. Read the document: How to make a backup of the Windows registry.

The other stuff you could not remove is because the changes are being blocked by programs you are running. Spyware Doctor and or Ad-Watch.exe
Turn them both off and then try HJT again. Make sure you remove this item below and then delete that folder:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TrustIn Popups] "C:\Program Files\TrustIn Popups\ <<< folder.

If you do the Symantec fix first, that item may no longer be there?

If you still have issues removing the stuff with HJT, do it in safe mode:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

Let me see a new HJT log when you are finished.

Thanks
Thanks Phil for all your help so far. Making a little progress, but I'm stll hijacked. I did follow all the norton directions to get rid of the Trustin popups a week ago and repeated it again today with the other programs closed. I repeated your hijack instructions and the norton's in safe mode. Still can not delete some of the registery entries even in safe mode.

This item: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE is not malware, it is considered spyware and is really optional, see this:
http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-180.html You can search for the item and delete the file only if you wish. You may have to do it in safe mode.

These item are clutter:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = C:\WINDOWS\local.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
You should be able to remove them with HJT. If not, it is your own programs that I mentioned before blocking the changes. I have had to actully uninstall the programs, remove the items and reinstall the programs. Both items as I said are clutter, not malware. Depends on if you want them gone.

This item: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TrustIn Popups] "C:\Program Files\TrustIn Popups\TrustInPopups.exe" once you use HJT to remove the line, HJT is a process manager that stops the process from running. You can navigate to the item and uninstall the program:
C:\Program Files\TrustIn Popups\ <<< uininstall the complete folder. I can see no way that program can still be in the log IF you are uninstalling the program from your drives.

Now if you wish to edit your registry, try this free tool with these instructions. Make sure you backup before you proceed in the event of an error.

http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

Backup Registry:
Backup your Registry…
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run…)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

RegSeeker canned:
I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder,
open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program.
Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK.
When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked
and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within
the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything
it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly,
control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything).
In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click
any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen.
Reboot When done.
