I scanned with Spybot S&D several times. Grisoft AVG, Bitdefender Online Scan. I deleted 41,000 files from a folder called Webafour in the Program Files folder. Virii' were found in the /Program Files/Common Files/Windows directory. This computer is in BAD shape. No internet access unless booted in Safe Mode w/ Networking. I managed to Image the drive to a new one so I have a backup. Anyway, here's the HJT log file. TIA for any help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Sorry about the delay in responding :(

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button below to reply. Thanks
Thanks for helping. I'd reinstall Windows but I need the installed software.

I have no internet access except in Safe Mode w/networking. Pinging not in Safe Mode gets Divide Overflow error. I tried installing IE7. No help. Bit Defender Online Scan finally came back with no Virii and Spybot S&D came back clean. I tried resetting the tcp/ip stack. No effect. I installed and ran the ewido suite and several other programs recomended in another thread. I turned off system restore. I set the recycle bin to don't use. I've scanned several times.

I'm at a loss.

Please help…

Lets se if this works.

I suggest you do this: In Normal Mode

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

You need To disable TeaTimer, it can stop our fix.

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I still have no internet access except in Safe Mode. When I try to ping I still get a divide overflow error. The second attempt to ping generated a command error that if I ignore doesn't seem to do anything. Here's the Event Log Info for that :

Application popup: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem : Command Prompt - ping 192.168.0.201
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0dac IP:fff0 OP:ff ff 12 11 4d Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

What's this from Event Viewer?

The Eplpdx02 service was successfully sent a start control.

Thanks again. Here's the log files - non-safe mode and safe mode:

I need you to try a couple things.

Click "Start"> "Run"> type in Regedit tap Enter Key

Let me know what happens.

Also

Click "Start"> "Run"> type in cmd tap Enter Key
ahhh… regedit launched regedit.com

cmd generated this error followed by a dcom error in the event log:

Lets see if this works

First download the appropriate registry file fixes from Doug Knox's web site at

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

As a minimum download these and unzip them into a folder.

COM File Association Fix (Restore the default associations for COM files)
EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files)
LNK (Shortcut) File Association Fix (Restores Default Shortcut Behavior)

The hardest part is to restore the exe association. Follow the instructions at the top of DOug Knox's web site on how to start Regedit from within Task Manager. Follow these instructions exactly and Regedit should start.

Now inport the reg files you downloaded above in turn. In regedit select file then select import and browse to each reg file in turn. If prompted to confirm merge select yes to accept.

Once all the reg files have been merged the file associations should now work OK.
OK. I merged the .reg files…several times actually. And regedit still opens regedit.com. I can open regedit.exe and get to the registry editor. cmd still opens cmd.com with an error. I've run sfc /scannow, but not /scanboot. This thing is deep… got any more ideas? Thanks, -kp :rant2: :rant2:
Please hang in there. I haven't forgotten you

Sorry I didn't answer your question:

What's this from Event Viewer?
The Eplpdx02 service was successfully sent a start control.

Eplpdx02, I believe it's an Epson printer and or emulation driver.

I see you have Ewido. Can you run a scan with Ewido per these instructions?

  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
    files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
    Update now
    " link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select ""Quarantine".".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting
your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:

  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions
    "
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the

you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the ewido report scan along with a new HijackThis log.

BTW, I'm checking with the Pro's to see if anyone else has a fix for the exe / com issues.
OK…Here's the Ewido scan file: ——————————————————— ewido anti-spyware - Scan Report ——————————————————— + Created at: 6:52:47 PM 7/9/2006 + Scan result: HKU\S-1-5-21-2014835873-1809067083-516276246-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{56F1D444-11BF-4879-A12B-79CF0177F038} -> Adware.180Solutions : Cleaned with backup (quarantined). With Ewido 4, if you click on the Infections icon, then it will show you all the items in Quarrantine and you can remove them that way. Just click Select All (if all of the items in quarrantine need removing) then Remove Finally.

Lets see what we can find.

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
