no strange things to see but task manger is not available

Hi!

and first of all thanks for this great website!

as mentioned in the topic header no strange things for me to see
except: task manger has been disabled by your administrator same for regedit.

When I reset this both it becomes available again but after reboot same story.

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Please make a PERMANANT folder for Hijack This!

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. MOVE (drag-and-drop) HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Copy the contents of the following quote box into Notepad:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000


Save it to the desktop as fixtm.reg

Now the fixtm.reg file on the desktop.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1


Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot.

Can you access regedit and the task manager now?

thanks micah, That is strange when I save the fixtm.reg and open it opens it in notepad. Is this of any help to see what is wrong? Do you now how I can change this? Thanks!

It's because you don't have it named correctly.

I have attached a file called "fixtm.txt" to this post.

Download it. on it. Choose "Rename". Rename it to "fixtm.reg".

it, and allow it to merge in the registry.

Go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in regedit then hit (or click OK)

In regedit, click "File" then "import", then navigate to the "fixtm.reg" file, it to highlight it, and click "Open".

task manger has been disabled by your administrator same for regedit. so no access to regedit do you want me to try it in the save mode?

I have the "cart before the horse" here… :oops:

Make the suggested fixes with HijackThis!, reboot, then the fixtm.reg file. Reboot once more.

Next thing ya know, I'll be "pushin' rope"…. :wacko:

Fix this:

O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

Then reboot.

That's what's stopping you from using regedit.

Until it's gone, and stays gone, you won't have access to regedit.

Can you use the task manager yet?
