Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O20 - Winlogon Notify: cbxwtur - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cbxwtur.dll

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\system32\cbxwtur.dll <— file

c:\windows\system32\diskmon32.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\ntsfd.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\svvchost.exe <— file
(CAUTION: BE SURE THE FILE YOU DELETE MATCHES THIS NAME EXACTLY!!!)

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

Please do not put your log in a "Code" nor a "Quote" box. It just makes it more difficult to read.

Unzip it, but don't run it yet.

Then click "Fix checked" & close Hijack This!

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cbxwtur.dll

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

The machine will reboot.

After the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

I went through the steps untill killbox. When i click the [x] button, it tried to verify the registry entries.And then it gave me a message: PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by External Process. Another questions: how bout diskmon32.exe and ntsfd.exe? do i have to kill them as well? Thanks.

Those aren't in the log any longer. And you cannot find them. Then they can't be a threat.

If you want to check for them (sometimes just because you can't find them, doesn't necessarily mean they are really "gone"), do this:

Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:

dir c:\diskmon32.exe /s > files.txt
dir c:\diskmon32.exe /ah /s >> files.txt
dir c:\ntsfd.exe /s >> files.txt
dir c:\ntsfd.exe /ah /s >> files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save it to your desktop as ff.bat

CLOSE NOTEPAD!!!

Now, the ff.bat file on the desktop.

Wait for a Notepad to open up.

Please paste it's contents into your next post.

yes, both ntsfd and diskmon32.exe are not found. Killbox seems unable to kill cbwxtur.dll

Please post a new HijackThis! log.

Then also do this:

Run Hijack This!

Click the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.

Click the "Open process manager" button.

Check the "Show DLLs" box (upper right).

Click on each item in the upper window, then look in the lower window.

Check to see which processes are using C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cbxwtur.dll

Post back letting me know all processes using that DLL.

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.

Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

Step 1:


Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from:

Process Explorer

Step 2:

Copy/paste the text in the Quote box below into Notepad, and save, where you can find it, as "killme.txt"

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cbxwtur.dll

Step 3:

Print out the following instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of:

cbxwtur.dll

once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of:

cbxwtur.dll

under winlogon click OK.

BE SURE TO KILL ONLY THIS FILE!!!

Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of:

cbxwtur.dll

then click the kill button.

BE SURE TO KILL ONLY THIS FILE!!!

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run Hijack This! and place a check beside each of the following.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6D794CB4-C7CD-4c6f-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxwtur.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: cbxwtur - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cbxwtur.dll

Now click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

Step 4:

Find and open the "killme.txt" file with Notepad.

Then copy the file name in the "killme.txt" to the clipboard by highlighting it and pressing C (hold the key down, then press C):

Close "killme.txt".

Double click on Killbox.exe and then check the Delete on reboot button.

In Killbox, past the file name in the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

After the reboot, "copy/paste" a new Hijack This! log file into this thread.

Looks good.

You can remove this folder:

C:\!Killbox

Killbox makes copies of items it removes, and places them there.
