IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Download and run - ATF Cleaner instructions here.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment
Hello, thanks so much for helping me out with this problem.

-Sometimes when the computer starts up, it takes a really long time to get running. Maybe three minutes before I can open a program.

-Once or twice I've noticed the computer has restarted itself of its own accord.

-My trend micro software keeps telling that "troj_dloader.avg" has infected the computer, even though every time it tells me this, i delete the problem.

I've done all the things you've ask me to do and here is the new Hijack this log:

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite and post the results here.
With a new hijackthis log.

[*]Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool32.dll

Download and run - ATF Cleaner instructions here.

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Ok. So I've done that. I did an ewido scan and the only things that were found were tracking cookies. Same with spybot. Is there anything else you would like me to do?
The trend micro scan finds nothing. sbybot found the tracking cookies "Avenue A, inc" and "Doubleclick".

On my desktop the mydocuments icon now has a little (what appears to be) refresh sign in the icons left hand corner. And when I open my documents every icon therein has the same little refresh sign. I haven't noticed this before, is this significant?

Otherwise the computer appears to be working fine - ie no more trend micro warnings about tro_dloader.avg or random restarts or slow startups. Thanks again for helping me, i really appreciate it :)

Log looks clean

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus or spyware infection.
There can be backups made in the System Restore folder.
Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus or spyware removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account
which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because
you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
