Please I wonder if someone could take a look at this log and tell me what is wrong?

There are three or four entires in the startup folder that are □□ squares, like that. What the heck are they? They can't be good.

The computer is running really slow. I have already run AdAware and Spybot and Norton.

OK Thanks. Here is the latest log. It still runs slow but I don't have those annoying pop-ups that say it can't find things.

I am doing this for a friend and yes, I see he was doing quite a bit of visiting…
How does it look?

No I didn't run Ewido yet. All my friends bring me there sick computers. First I do Adaware, then Spybot and then, depending on what it might be, SmitfraudFix and Ewido (in safe mode usually). The usual. But this didn't look like the usual. I've had to go home at this point but I will be over his place again in the morning. Should I do the Ewido and if so, in Safe or Normal mode? He has got so much stuff loading at startup. I've never seen so much.

It's looking pretty clean. I think Ewido in Safe Mode: If you haven't run the newest version 4.0, which the user has, here's how to run it:

No need to download it again, just follow the directions.

First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
    files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
    Update now
    " link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting
your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions
    "
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the ewido report scan.
I'd also run this after the Ewido Scan:

lets see if this will help speed it up.

Backup your Registry…
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run…)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.
OK I'm back and have done the Ewido. Here is the report. I did one registry clean and now I am in a cycle to install TrayApp, whatever that is. I'm going searching now for more info on that. ——————————————————— ewido anti-spyware - Scan Report ——————————————————— + Created at: 3:29:40 PM 6/24/2006 + Scan result: HKU\S-1-5-21-1659004503-1035525444-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{AC212FB9-3883-461E-A559-37A4F6100FB0} -> Adware.Generic : Cleaned with backup (quarantined). If you dont have these programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Thank you so much. I will complete as you said and will make certain my friend makes a donation. And i have a little sheet I give all my friends, telling them how to stay safe (or safer, as you can never be totally safe). ciao
