I could not get house call to run-the page just kept coming up blank. Should I also run a HJT log? I have spybot, adaware and AVG running regularly so I am not sure why I keep getting infected...any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.Use Add/Remove Programs and remove HijackThis. What you have now is out dated.

you can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://www.thespykil...es/HJTsetup.exe .

Click on the link and select Save, save it to your desktop and double click HJTsetup.exe.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here [Add Reply].

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

I'm not seeing anything except temp files and cookies.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

That's OK. It recreates itself.

You're running 2 anti-virus programs. Symantec Norton's and Grisoft AVG. You need to uninstall one of them. That can cause all kinds of problems.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find FindFastNT

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service.

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
Logitech\Desktop Messenger <--unless you use this

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Note: This is windows messenger, not MSN messenger
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

O23 - Service: Microsoft Find Fast Service (FindFastNT) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\ffnt.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

hi, I thought I had deleted norton--it doesn't show up in add/remove programs. I still do have the norton firewall on there because I think that's the only one on my system. Should I get rid of that component?
Computer seems okay except the word problems persist.
thank you so much for your help. This is such a great resource.

I'd keep the firewall

Sorry, I don't have any other ideas as to the problem with Word.

Good Job

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have these programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
