Amazing! Reformat didn't work!

Okay, I guess I'm doomed. I reinstalled XP and thoughgt that would remove my problem. But I am still getting redirected to seeq.com when I am trying to get to yahoo.com.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or is it all over for my desktop? I am running ad-aware and spybot regularly. They find cookies - low threat stuff. They never find the source of my problem.

here's some more mystery. My laptop kept getting redirected to seeq.com as well (again when I was in Yahoo). I took th elaptop to South Carolina with me on a business trip. When I stayed in the Holiday Inn I NEVER had a hijack problem - I tooled around Yahho all day. I dropped the Laptop off at a computer repair and they were familiar with hijacking - but when they checked the laptop they found it to be CLEAN.

So I returned to Georgia and now I keep getting redirected to Seeq (again only when in Yahoo).

easy answer is avoid Yahoo - but what in the world is going on here? Is it possible that the problem is external to my machines? None of my spyware ever catches anything - and I am able to surf everywhere except yahoo.

This is driving me stark raving mad.

Here's my hijack this log from my desktop. Someone please tell me if I have gone CRAZY:

Close all browser windows and fix this with HijackThis!:

Reboot.

Read this.

Is that what's happening to you?
Thanks very much! Well, what you linked is similar to my experience. However, when I am in yahoo I click on the sports link and voila! I am at seeq. So maybe Yahoo has some dodgy links?

Anyway, I fixed your suggestion with hijackthis.

Hopefully that will turn the trick. i am thankful for the advice.

Well, I rebooted (I had forgotten that key step) and for the first time in 2 weeks I think I am able to get to yahoo sports and other yahoo links. I do believe you may have solved the problem! thanks for the help, friend!
I've looked at your other thread, and couldn't see anything obvious in there (before the reformat) that was a "bug". I'll leave this thread open for about a week. If you start "seeq'ing" again, let me know. ;)
Here's the latest log - looks the same.

Command line options:
/verbose - to add additional info on each section
/complete - to include empty sections and unsuspicious data
/full - to include several rarely-important sections
/force9x - to include Win9x-only startups even if running on WinNT
/forcent - to include WinNT-only startups even if running on Win9x
/forceall - to include all Win9x and WinNT startups, regardless of platform
/history - to list version history only
Let's try this.

Open this file using Notepad:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

In there, you'll see a line that looks about like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Under it, place two similar lines looking like this:

127.0.0.1 seeq.com
127.0.0.1 yahoo.seeq.com

Save it.

Reboot.

See if your problem goes away.

If you start getting "This page cannot be displayed" errors, remove those two lines that you added to the "HOSTS" file.
Thanks, I will try this - unfortunately I am travelling and will not get to try this until sunday night. I sincerely appreciate your help. regards, cj
I tried it - unfortunately I did get the "this page cannot be displayed" whenever I tried to look at Yahoo sports, yahoo MLB, Yahoo fantasy baseball etc. So I went back and changed it back. Unfortunately Seeq is back more annoying than ever. Every link within Yahoo's page (still exclusive to yahoo) redirects to seeq.com Unreal, huh?
Go to your control panel and open your network connections. Select the first network adaptor listed. Right Click on it, and select Properties. On the "general" Tab, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Select "Properties" See what it listed in the Use the following DNS server addresses as the Preferred and Alternate DNS Servers. Post back the results. Also Click the Advanced Tab Then click on the DNS Tab Look at DNS Server Addresses, in order of use. Post the names of the DNS servers in the order of use box. Post a new HijackThis! log. And would it be too much to ask a "general" part of the country you are located in? (North, South, Central, East, Southeast, etc.)
I am in southeast.

Okay here are the results -

TCP/IP - the following boxes are checked:

Obtain IP address automatically

Obtain DNS server address automatically

DNS servers used in order:

There aren't any listed. the following boxes are checked:

-Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes

-Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix

Another box is checked below :

register this connection's adresses in DNS

I'll run hijack this again and post log in next post.
