Greetings,

I am operating IBM Think Centre with XP PRO. I use both IE and Netscape browsers.

I am infected with a trojan.adclicker…ATMCLK.EXE and possibly W32.MYZOR.FK@YF

My IE browser is totally hijacked and thanks to the Netscape browser, I am able to post here. I had
Spybot S&D previously installed but it did not stop the attack, nor could it remove it. I tried to use my IBM go back feature but it was unable to do so. My Symantic antivirus program is unable to remove it.

I get the pop-up spyware detected windows and assumed they are part of the problem and in reading
this site it appears that I am correct.

I do believe that this problem started when I tried to download XXXCODEC. It has my CPU running at 100%.

Below is my Hijackthis log and look forward to getting rid of this terrible problem…..Mucho Thanks…Mark

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
  • c:\rapport.txt
  • Ewido log
  • A new HijackThis log
Your may need several replies to post the requested logs, otherwise they might get cut off.

siggyx…I'm back again, Here's what happened….I rebooted and opened Ewido and ran a scan. During the scan it found and removed 63 infected items. I wrote them all down as they were removed. After the scan, the buttons for save file and view file were grayed out and I could not access them…hope I didn't screw anything up. I rebooted and was no longer getting the virus warnings on my taskbar so I attemped to open Internet Explorer and it was still hijacked. I received an Internet Explorer pop-up advising me that I was infected with a virus called W32.myzor.fk@yf. The pop-up advised that this virus attacks .exe files and tries to steal passwords and personal information. It advised to click on the OK button to download a fix. I DID NOT click on this as I feel this may be a hoax. I just canceled the window and exiited IE. Went to Netscape so I could post. Please, let me know what else you need from me. I will now shut down and boot up later for your response………..Thanks Again, Mark
There are a few more steps to go.

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Hello Siggyx, I can longer get into safe mode. I had trouble before, but now, not at all. I have tried everything I can think of. I tap the F8, I hold the F8…no luck. I pull the power off during, after, and before computer boots…no luck. I have tried F2, F5, and F1…no luck. I have pushed the enter key as soon as the IBM Think Centre logo comes up, but all I can get into is the bios…no help there. If you haven't guessed, I am operating with windows xp pro on an IBM computer. Any help you can give to get me into safe mode would be greatly appreciated. I really liked it better in 98se when you can choose to boot in safe mode………………Thanks Again…Mark
Siggyx, THIS IS GREAT….everything appears OK, but you will be able to tell better once you read the log. My IE browser is no longer hijacked and ewido had removed another 150 infected files. If, in your opinion, all is well, I would like the following advice: It is obvious to me to keep the Ewido program…should I keep the Spybot S&D? Are there any other programs I should be using? What are the recommended settings for each and do I need to run them after each browsing session? If not, how often? Did all this in fact start when I tried to download xxx.codec? This forum has been nothing short of fantastic and I will very soon be sending a donation…in fact, I will be sending something on a regular basis, whether I need future help or not…you guys deserve it. Good Morning Siggyx,

I know I keep weird hours, but it appears you never sleep…not that I'm
complaining…LOL. I'll be down for the next couple of hours…have to go to
town, but will check as soon as I get back….Thanks, Mark

Fast question, did you add this to your host file O1 - Hosts: 212.227.64.159 www.winmx.com

If not please do this

Please download hoster from the link below.

http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

Open Hoster.exe.

Then click on "Restore Original Hosts"

Close program when complete.

NEXT

Click Start > Run

In the box, type in services.msc then hit (or click OK)

In the Name column, look for XXXCodec Service

it.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled, then click Apply then OK.

Next scan with hijackthis and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX

O1 - Hosts: 212.227.64.159 www.winmx.com <<

O23 - Service: XXXCodec Service (XXXCodec Acceleration Service) - xxxcodec.com - C:\Program Files\XXXCodec\casrv.exe

Then reboot and a new log please.
Siggyx,

Did as instructed and here is the new log: (I see the xxxcodec is still there)
