Hi WhavenMarra:

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work.

I see you are using Nortons Anti-Virus, but are also using AVG Anti-Virus.
Using two Anti-Virus, or two firewall programs at the same time can produce conflicts and can provide you with less protection, rather than more.

I suggest Uninstalling one of your Anti-Virus programs.

Also, if you are also using Nortons, or any other Firewall in addition to the Zone Alarm firewall, please Uninstall all but one of them, in Add/Remove Programs.

Next:
Your Sun Java needs updating.
Please use the following link to update Sun Java:

http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp

Next:

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all Windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check against each of the following.

O2 - BHO: CIEObjectObj Object - {CA13D72F-2DAC-4D99-B08D-C5EA1C920E89} - C:\WINDOWS\IEObject.dll

The following are recommended fixes:

Online Poker sites are well known for placing all manner of Internet parasites on their visitors PCs and they are only getting worse. Recommendation is to Uninstall/Remove in Control Panel-->Add/Remove programs, then fix with Hijack This and delete the files below.

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dll

Then, click on FIX CHECKED

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\IEObject.dll

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot as normal.

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Anti-Malware:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK.
  • From the main Ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
  • Exit Ewido. DO NOT run a scan yet.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".

    Then, return to Ewido.
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Close Ewido
Please save the Ewido report, to be posted here later.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

The trial version of Ewido works like a full featured version for 14 days, after that the only features that will not work are, autoupdate and realtime protection. It will still be able to be updated with the link above and be used to scan and remove undesirables.

Next:

Please use the following links to scan your PC for Viruses. Please run two of the following.

When using Trend Micro, be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.
TrendMicro HouseCall
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
http://www.kaspersky...ml?id=146100010
Bitdefender and let it delete everything it finds.
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Note any thing that can't be fixed and reboot when done.

Then, please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log and post it into this topic, along with the Ewido report.

Please advise if any problems remain.

Please use the Posted Image button to reply.

Hi WhavenMarra:

The bit defender report may be too dated. Due to the fixes that have already been made, its findings may no longer be relevant.

I do not believe the ieobject.dll file will cause any problems.

Your Hijack This log looks to be clean. If there are no problems, I suggest the following.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywar...showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
http://castlecops.co...tlite7736-.html
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Safe surfing. :wavey:

Thank you again Piatan! My computer is now running far better than it has in a long time!!! However, Spyware guard keeps telling me " Runtime error:429 ActiveX component cannot create object." whenever i start the pc or try to run the program. Have I done something wrong? Yours hopefully, Mark.

You're welcome, WhavenMarra. :D That's very good to hear. Try uninstalling the program, then download it again. I'm not sure what that error means, in SpywareGuard.
