I could not find the security info checkbox you talked about under web in display settings, could this have something to do with me running 2000? I did find one show web content on my active desktop, but checking it or unchecking it had no appaerant effect. There was a delete button there as well, but it was greyed out cause there was nothing to delete. Download Avenger by Swandog, and unzip it to your desktop or somewhere you can find it. (Do not run it yet).

Note: This program is for use on Windows XP 32 bit systems only, and must be run from an account with Administor priviledges. If yours is a 64 bit version, do not use it, let me know.

Open a Notepad file by clicking Start > Run and typing Notepad.exe in the box, click OK.

Click Format, and ensure Word Wrap is unchecked.

Copy and Paste all the text inside the box below into Notepad.

Now save the file as RemoveFiles.txt in a location where you can find it.

Files to delete:

C:\WINNT\scchost.exe
C:\ctfmon.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\MYDOCU~1\ASEMBL~1\rundll.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\?ssembly\m?dtc.exe

Start Avenger by double clicking on Avenger.exe.

Check Load script from file:

Click on the folder symbol below and to the right, and browse to RemoveFiles.txt.

Double click it to enter it into Avenger.

Click the green traffic light symbol.

You will be asked if you want to execute the script, answer Yes.

At this point you may get prompts from your protection systems, allow them please.

Avenger will set itself up to run the next time you re-boot, and will prompt you to re-start immediately.

Answer Yes, and allow your computer to re-boot.

Upon re-boot a command window will briefly appear on screen (this is normal).

A Notepad text file will be created C:\avenger.txt.

Copy and Paste it into your next post please, along with a new HJT log.

well my pc is a 32 bit, but I am currently running windows 2000 not XP. Can I still use the Avenger Program?

Restart your computer in Safe Mode

Press the F8 key, when you see the Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen.

Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.
This can take several miniutes to load.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Delete this Folder:
C:\DOCUMENTS and Settings\ADMINInistrator\MY DOCUments\ASEMBL~1

Delete these Files if listed:
C:\WINNT\scchost.exe

ctfmon.exe <--If located in other then the System32 folder

NOTE: The good file will always be located in the System32 folder. If it is located elsewhere, it will likely be a worm or trojan!

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

after running hijack this I could not find ctfmon.exe anywhere, but I did find a scchost.exe, just it was in system32. Ran ATF and restarted, all in safe mode.

scchost.exe <--This is a bad guy. Make sure of the spelling. There is a legit C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe

If there is a scchost.exe, delete it.

Yes as I understood from your previous message the scchost.exe was bad even in the system32 folder so I deleted it while in safe mode pre atf.

I'd like you to run another ewido scan to make sure everything is gone:

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Note: This can take several minutes to load Sfae Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

How is it running any issues?

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I still don't have Windows XP.. and therefore I don't have any system restore I am aware off.. at least not at said location.
