Hi, I'm a new member. My friend mentioned this site.

Recently, my firewall has been blocking me off from connecting to the internet. I cannot visit a website unless I turn it off. I suspect that my firewall is detecting spyware. The firewall I use is by Zone Labs. May someone have an idea as to the cause? Here is my log:

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

I see a couple of malicious entries in the log.

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall
Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.

Panda Activescan
Accept default settings.

Etrust Security Advisor
Choose 'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful.

Reboot after each scan.

When complete, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Before pasting the log into here, please turn Wordwrap OFF in Notepad.

It maked the logs easier to decipher.
:)
Thanks for your help. I tried the last two scans you have recommended. Etrust managed to find a virus and I deleted the files after the 'cure' was unsuccessful. However, my firewall is still blocking me off the internet.

Here is the new log:

Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread. :)
I have done everything you said in the last post, but the problem still persists. Here is the new log:

All the malware appears to be gone.

This is a stupid question, but have you checked the settings in Zone Alarm?

Have you considered uninstalling/re-installing it?

I just can't see anything in there that would be causing a problem….

We can take a peek here:

Run Hijack This!.

Click on Open Misc Tools section

To the right of Generate Startuplist log, there are two boxes.

Check them both, then click Generate Startuplist log.

"Copy/paste" the startuplist log into this thread.
Here is the startup list:

I missed one…

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!
Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: SafeGuard Protect PCShield - {564FFB73-9EEF-4969-92FA-5FC4A92E2C2A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg_62e1.dll

Then click "Fix checked", close HijackThis! & reboot.

I don't think that one fix will cure your problem, but I've been wrong before.

Please download Rootkit Revealer to your desktop. Unzip the file. Turn off your real time antivirus for the duration of the scan.

Then go to: File –> Scan

This will take some time.

When it's done, go to File –> Save

Save the logfile to the desktop, and then paste the contents in here.

Don't forget to turn your antivirus back on afterwards.

If we don't see anything bad in there, you may be relegated to the link below. It's possible the infection you had has corrupted the firewall. I've done some research, but whatever you had isn't all that common.

Zone Alarm Help Forum
I think you may be right, my problem is unusual. Rootkit revealer found no discrepancies. The logfile from Rootkit was empty.
We could search for "silent runners"…

After that, if you're problem persists, I'm out of cards to play.

Please go here:

Silent Runners.org

Download/run the silentrunners.vbs script.

If you antivirus complains, tell it to let the script run.

When you run it, click "Yes" to the "Skip supplementary searches".

It will take a few minutes to run.

When it fininshes, it will tell you what text file it put the results in (it will be in the same folder the VBS file was downloaded into).

Open it up with Notepad, and paste it into your next post, please.
:)
Here's the file from Silentrunners:

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 45, http://www.silentrunners.org/
Operating System: Windows XP SP2

I only see three items that shouldn't be there. Again, I don't think they're causing your problem.

If you want to remove these, please do this:

Please download/unzip this:

Registry Search by Bobbi Flekman

on regsearch.exe, and search for these:

pdfupd.dll
sfg_62e1.dll

It may take a while to run, so be patient. When finished, the search results will appear in your text editor,

Paste the contents of the search results into your next post.

P.S.

Is the Windows firewall turned off?
I finally managed to fix my problem. It was in the settings of the firewall, but you still helped me. Initially, I couldn't open Internet Explorer and so was unable to access the information Link by Zone Labs. But I think when I removed 'O2 - BHO: SafeGuard Protect PCShield - {564FFB73-9EEF-4969-92FA-5FC4A92E2C2A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg_62e1.dll' Internet Explorer started working again. Hence, I was able to find out the cause of my problem and adjust the settings accordingly. Thanks, I really appreciate your help.
