I've been hijacked. I hope I haven't made things worse. I've done a ba-zillion Ad-aware and Spybot scans, tried to restore to an earlier date……….and now, I can't even find Ad-aware or Spybot on my computer OR the option to restore. Here's my log:

Thanks for any help you can give :o
Welcome to the forum.

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder - we'll use it later.

Reboot into safe mode:
You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes if listed:

DHEBYG.EXE
SQVFY.EXE

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and…..
Place a check against the following items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://fast-finder.com/searchresults.asp?si=20061&k=
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://fast-finder.com/searchresults.asp?si=20061&k=
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cyisxe] C:\WINDOWS\dhebyg.exe reg_run
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xvpta] C:\WINDOWS\dhebyg.exe reg_run
O4 - Startup: uoqcf.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Now open up the KillBox and copy and paste each one of these in and hit delete, if the file exists, it will appear in blue under the window, if not move on to the next file. Please let me know of any files that couldn't be deleted.

C:\WINDOWS\DHEBYG.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SQVFY.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\uoqcf.exe

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
Thank you Mr C. The first two processes were not listed in the Task Manager. I also got a message in KillBox when I tried to delete uoqcf.exe (it didn't show up in blue), that said the file didn't seem to exist. Otherwise, I think I did it all correctly.

Looks Good - just get this one:

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and…..
Place a check against the following items:

O16 - DPF: {E9348280-2D74-4933-BE25-73D946926795} (DeviceEnum Class) - http://h20270.www2.hp.com/ediags/gmn/insta…cdetection3.cab

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Then do this for me………

Please download QooFix9x and save it to your desktop. Do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click QooFix9x.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the QooFix9x folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. If you get a warning about running MS-DOS programs in Safe Mode, please just click OK to continue. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the QooFix9x folder.
MrC
Thanks Mr Charlie. I've done all that and here is my new log and the log.txt contents:

Removing registry entries:

Backing up files:

Done!

Finished!
Well, I'd have to say it's a lot better although I am still getting a lot of pop ups at times. I downloaded Ad-Aware again this morning and ran another scan. It still shows a lot of problems but when I try to delete them the screen just freezes up. There are 2 DLL files that show on there that when I go into Windows/System I cannot delete. They are: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFASNI.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VSMDBG.DLL The first one I get a message that says it cannot be deleted because Windows is currently using the file to run. The second one tells me if I delete it my system will not be able to run properly without it. Any advice? Thanks in advance and also for the great help you have been already.
These are both malware not Windows files.
You should still have the KillBox on the system.

Open up the KillBox and choose the "delete on reboot" feature > Make sure you check the "All Files" button also > it should flash now.
Highlight (select) the files below in blue > right click on them and choose copy

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFASNI.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VSMDBG.DLL

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt. Reboot.

——————————-

You say you have AdAware installed, I want you to add to it VX2 Cleaner plug-in.

How to use Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in instructions and download also here

Download Adaware HERE . Insure that you check for updates then close Adaware.

- Close Ad-Aware SE and Ad-Watch (if running)
- Download the free VX2 Cleaner at » http://updates.ls-servers.com/vx2cleaner_inst.exe
-Install the VX2 Cleaner (double click on it)
- Start Ad-Aware SE
- Go to "Add-ons"
- Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run tool"- Select "Clean system"
- Reboot your computer
- Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
- Remove all objects detected
- Then run the ad-aware VX2 plugin (removing all objects detected)
- Reboot your computer again
- Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and let me know how it is, MrC
This really made no difference at all. I continue to have pop ups and everything runs slower. When I run Ad-Aware the screen freezes when I attempt to delete the files. During the scan I get KERNEL32 and Internet Explorer errors. Here's my latest HJT log and after that I want you to look at the latest Ad-Aware scan results. These boogers are still in my computer and just won't die!

Please do this for me……….

Please download L2m9xfix from one of these two locations:
GeeksToGo
Noidea.us

Save it to the desktop and run it. Extract the files, and then open the l2m9xfix folder you just created and run RunThis.bat.

A window will open, and your desktop will disappear, then reappear. Please be patient until the batch says it is completed.

Then please restart your computer, and post a new HijackThis log as well as the entire text of the log.txt file which should be in the same folder as RunThis.bat.

MrC
Ok………here you go:

Ok….I'm holding my breath here, but I think this might have fixed it. I've been signed on the internet for almost an hour now since running those last processes and NO pop ups. Only thing I see wrong is on the bottom task bar I have 2 identical sets of quick launch icons. I tried to delete one, but it sends both to the recycle bin when I do that. But hey, I'm not complaining! I think I might go run another Ad-Aware scan and see how that goes.
The log look OK.

Right click on a blank space on your taskbar and choose "open folder" see if it shows duplicate entries there.

You can also check the folder - make sure there's only one:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Let me know, MrC
Thanks Mr Charlie. I cannot be 100% sure that everything is gone now. Ad-Aware is still showing some of those CoolWWWSearch things and one in the registry. Spybot S&D shows that everything is gone. So who knows? lol

I guess the bottom line is I'm not getting any pop ups, I just hope my security/privacy is not being compromised in some way. I've done a scan disk/defrag/cleanup thing. There were errors on the hard drive that scan disk repaired. I also went into the registry and did the unload dll tweak that is given on the home page.

Everything seems to be running smoothly……..do you think I need to pursue this CoolWWWSearch thing?

Here's my latest HJT log:
