Hi
I got that spy falcon virus thingy that gives me the "virus alert!" icon in my system tray as well as all those links to the anti spyware programs. I followed all the steps in the self help forum post and now I am posting my logs….. The status tray icon still isn't gone so I'm assuming thats normal and part of the log posting process.
Thank you to whoever helps me

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log as well as the Results from Spy Sweeper file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Regarding how my pc is running….. My pc actually seems completely fine except for that dayam system try icon that says "virus alert!". At first when I got this thinig websites wowuld pop up taking me to casino pages and to the anti spyware pages and there were 2 links to the "security" websites on my desktop and startmenu and then when I ran all that smit fraud stuff all that stopped. But the little icon is there the whole time even when I went to safe mode and when I was in safe mode it brought up a pop up box describing how my pc is at risk etc. etc. It doesn't do that in normal windows mode. Also when I ran the smit fraud program it never asked me anything about that dll that you said it might check for…. wininit or something like that. My pc seems fine but I am a bit worried if theres still spyware on here and that icon is a clear indication that something is still here. Thank you a lot for all your effort in trying to help me, I really appreciate it.
Andreas

Hi I downloaded the smit fraud fix approximately 9 hours ago. My pc appears to be behaving normally except for the system tray icon. I just want to check before I go through what u said I should do with the hijack this that it wont delete my poker programs. I play quite a lot of poker on the internet hehe :D. I picked up this virus from some dodgy media codecs sigh.

You can leave the poker sites alone then. I was told the updated fix was done this afternoon. Let try the fix again.

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Hi. Ok I redownloaded the smitfraud and ran it in safe mode and the icon is still there. Must I also do all the ewido stuff again? By the way my smitfraud hasn't once said anythin about whether wininet.dll is infected or not. Could this be a problem? its nearly 2am in my country now so I'm going to bed. Just let me know what I must post so I can do that tomorrow. Thank you Andreas
Tommorow I need you to run the fix as posted. You need to make sure you run smitfraud twice like posted and the Ewido. Just try it in the morning

Hehe icon still there but otherwise pc seems normal

Are you sure it's a Spy Falcon ICON and not a windows warning ICON.

Go here and run the online scan, allow it to delete whatever it finds:

Panda ActiveScan

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
[*]A new window will open…click the Check Now button

[*]Enter your Country

[*]Enter your State/Province

[*]Enter your e-mail address and click send

[*]Select either Home User or Company

[*]Click the big Scan Now button

[*]If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it

[*]It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)

[*]When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan

[*]When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Note any thing that can't be fixed

Reboot when done.
Hi! Ye I'm sure about the icon. BUT….. I looked through some other forum posts and even though I tried to download the updated smitfraud like you said I don't think my download accelerator overwrote it completely. So I downloaded it again and ran it again! This time version 2.40 and not 2.39. Anyway I ran it in safe mode and now the icon is gone. So I'm guessing the problem is fixed. Thank you for helping me. I don't know where you get all the time for this but I really appreciate. Have a good day!
