The manual instructions require me to find the item in add/remove software. It's not in the list, at least not hanging out obviously. I did a search thru the registry for the occurances of iniwin32.dll and it exists 3 times in the registry hkcu\software\microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603 hklm\software\microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows hku\s-1-5-21-299502267-920026266-1343024091-1003\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603 While it seems to me that one of these entries is what is busying the file, I'm not sure of it, and I'm not about to make registry changes without guidance. I suppose I could change each occurance of iniwin32.dll to some other name and try rebooting and see if the file is no longer busy.

FYI I emailed the error message from HJT and the log to merijn. Perhaps she has a way to fix HJT or otherwise take out the O20 - AppInit_DLLs: iniwin32.dll

I got it out. I renamed it in the registry, rebooted, and was able to rename it to a third name in the system32 folder.

the entry at hklm\software\microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

is what generates the line:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: iniwin32.dll

I renamed the registry key to iniwin32.dllold

and HJT ran and showed me:

Now we got past that entry...

I've run cccleaner, no problem.

Regseeker... I get the list and do a select all, but I don't see a "delete key". You don't mean the DEL key on the keyboard, as that just clears the list. How do I delete the entries after doing the select all?

OK! I made a lot of progress.

1) in safe mode, I ran Ewido again, and got this log:

---------------------------------------------------------
ewido anti-malware - Scan report
---------------------------------------------------------

+ Created on: 12:11:33 PM, 5/3/2006
+ Report-Checksum: FFD5EE6C

+ Scan result:

C:\Program Files\delete\__delete_on_reboot__IeBHOs.dll -> Adware.E2Give : Cleaned with backup

::Report End

2) Based on the above, while in safe mode, I deleted c:\!KillBox and c:\Program Files\delete
and they both got deleted (bypassing recycle bin)

3) then I booted up normal mode and ran HJT

4) I deleted

O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll

and it deleted, and no longer shows up. Here's the latest HJT log:
