Manual deletion not advised. If the file is "in use", it wouldn't even be possible.

Please download/unzip this:

Registry Search by Bobbi Flekman

<Double-click> on regsearch.exe, and search for this:

avg

It may take a while to run, so be patient. When finished, the search results will appear in your text editor,

Paste the contents of the results into your next post.

It's been a good 2yrs since i've had to reimage the computer,

I would assume that means you have Windows XP CD's available?

I downloaded Registry Search, and did the search.

Sorry, i refer to my laptop as a computer :P the 'computer' with the problems is my laptop. bought in 2003..HP Pavilion ze4300. Ne ways, it didn't come with Windows XP CDs... but it did come with a few HP CDs..and a reboot cd which you have to use to reinstall windows and all that.

well, here's the results of the registry search:
The results are over the limit of the amount of characters allowed. so, I just posted it as a txt file

I had considered a "brute force" approach in the registry.

HOWEVER, that's akin to "brain surgery with a bandsaw" (Quoted from one of our Classroom Teachers), at least in this case.

Let's try this:

How to install/uninstall AVG Free for Windows components?

From that link:

Running the installation process recognises the existence of installed AVG Free for Windows and the Add/Remove Components option is offered.

I'm assuming that it should go something like this:

1. You download the installation file and begin the install.

2. The program should recognize the already installed components, and ask if you want to remove them before continuing the installation.

3. You choose to remove the existing components. When it asks if you want to continue the installation, you decline.

I've done some research on removing AVG. There are two methods:

1. Thru "Add/Remove Programs"

2. Use the "Uninstall" (located in the AVG folder)

I was wondering which you used?

Let me know how you fare. :)

If it were me, I would get rid of all of those cookies... Probably will not help your lag, but still; there is no reason to have them. Also I noticed that you have some sort of Bluetooth device. It is possible that your lag is coming from the Bluetooth software "searching" for a new device to sync with. I could be way off; but it is a possibility.

Bobapunk, i can almost assure you that it's not my bluetooth device..but thanks for your concern and support. I turn on my bluetooth manually, and turn it off manually. I only use it to transfer photos from phone to pc. I got the bluetooth a month ago, and my problem has been ongoing for 3 months. Thanks for ur concern though. Micah, I tried installing it again, then uninstalling it again. Unfortunately, the situation with the lag remains. I used the Add/Remove programs way of uninstalling it. :( Thanks for putting up with this problem of mine. I suppose if all else fails..i can either just live with the problem (though very very annoying), or transfer all of my important files to a friends computer while I reimage my computer (which i'd hate to do, since I'd have to have technicians come here to reconfigure my wi-fi internet connection). at this point..I'm up for any kind of procedure, safe or dangerous heheh. Thanks again.

Did you ever get the "Add/Remove Components" opportunity?

Another thing to try.....

We noticed many "Application Hang" entries in the file you posted.

Please go to:

Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools

Then <double-click> Event Viewer

In the left hand windows, click Application

Scroll thru the right hand window, and look for entries preceded with a yellow exclamation mark, or a red x.

If you find any, <double-click> on that entry, and look in the Description box for clues as to what is "hanging". Post what you find.

In the left hand window, click System, and see if you find any yellow exclamation marks or red x's in the right hand window again. Post what you find.

When you post again, please make/post a new HijackThis! startup list log as well.

To your question pertaining about the Add/Remove Components, I never got that opportunity, also it never recognized older files that were arleady installed before for some reason. I uninstalled the program, and the Grisoft folder is now nonexistant.

I found Several redmarks n yellow marks. More than 100 red X'sand yellow ! signs. Ne ways, I categorized it in "Events" since each selection had its own event starting with Event 1, and it goes to around 11,700. I wasn't able to retrieve every single red and yellow X with the discription for you, since there were way too many. But when I did categorize it into events..numerically, each event such as...event 1000... it probably had 20 Application Error Red X's/yellow ! signs..for event 1000. I'm not sure if i'm making any sense...i apologize if I don't. I scanned downed the list of events with errors..or warning signs next to them, and copied and pasted one from each event..since the many applications per event error pretty much had the same discription.

So Here they are

The unwanted AVG services are gone.

And I neglected to mention that the Ewido log looked pretty benign.

Please download this:

RootkitRevealer

When it's done, go to File -> Save

Save the logfile to the desktop, and then paste the contents here.

It might take a long time to run.

We were also wondering how much memory/free disk space you have?

How long has it been since you cleaned your "temp" files, and defragged the C: drive?

Whew! i finally got to finish scanning it fully. I scanned it yesterday but only up to about 40% before someone accidentally shut down the laptop. Then this morning, i started up without doing anything new, and the lag went away..but there's bad news. after a 2nd startup this afternoon the lag came back. and i shutdown and restarted the startup, and the lag was still there. But i did do the full scan this morning. here's the results. See anything that stands out? To answer your question, I have 10GB of space left out of my 40gig hard drive. We're not seeing a anything malicious there....

One of our Teachers suggests this:

Have them run a Pitstop test and post the results back in the thread to "share" with you.
TechExpress Help

Can you also boot in "safe mode", and let me know if the lag is present then?

How to boot in "safe" mode

Thanks. That was a really neat site.

Here's the link to my results http://www.pcpitstop...6ZSPWDUNZJS7Y1Q
How's it look?

Yes, I do lag during safe mode.

From what I'm seeing, The lag has died down somewhat. I'm swirling my mouse around and watching the pointer on the screen when it lags. Before, the lag would come every 5-6 seconds with a very noticeable lag. Now, it's died down from a noticeable lag..to a more softer..subtle lag. But it still causes problems when typing.

Thanks again to you and the others who are helping me out. Thank You

A Quick Update

The lag has seem to disappear as of this moment. No lag, no having to backspace for skipped letters due to the lag..and the computer seems to be running smooth.

Not sure if this will hold up, but, progress has been made.

I'll update you in 3-5 days again..to verify if the lag is really gone.

Thanks so much with all of your help and support! I think that others who have the same problem as me will find an extensive amount of information in this thread regarding unwanted lag. Thank You thank you thank you so so so much! You guys are great. Thanks for putting up with this problem of mine, for right now the lag is gone. in a few days, i'll update you again, and we could finally end this thread. Thanks so much!
